Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate May 2, 2008 | David Peck | |
Not only are you searching for "stuff", but mini-puzzles are sprinkled around to test your vocabulary and logic. Among the mini-puzzles there are word puzzles that might ask you to create 10 words from a jumble of letters and a colored block puzzle that is reminiscent of a simplified 2-D Rubik's cube where blocks must be rotated to match corresponding sides on opposite blocks until all the sides are matched up. Not to worry, I did not do so well with the original Rubik's cube, but this puzzle was within my logic capabilities. Don't be surprised the mini-puzzles have nothing to do with the plot, but here again this is not unusual with STO puzzle games. Each round of investigations offers a set number of hints to help you locate objects. What's really frustrating is when the hint, a circle drawn on the screen identifies a location on the scene, but I still can't see the item! (whimper). And as I whine to you dear IMG reader, I get to watch my wife progress through each screen at a faster rate than I. Argh!! Although she admits I have a point regarding the difficulty of the fuzzy, shadowy nature of the graphics. Wrap Up That's really all there is to tell. Cycle through scenes, find the items on the list, match up blocks, and work on your vocabulary. The game has a good theme, the graphics are high quality but their characteristics make the game more difficult and you're stuck with a timer. STO gamers should find Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate to be a challenge. When evaluating a game, it's always wise to give the demo a spin prior to purchase.Pros • High Quality Graphics. • Good theme. • Partially hidden and/or objects in shadows makes game challenging. • Plus challenging Mini-Puzzles. • Good replay value due to mass quantity of objects to search for. • Game timer offers relaxed mode.Cons • Objects can be difficult to spot. • Hint's don't always help much due to the difficulty of spotting some objects. • No option to turn off game timer.
