One part of the game which is lacking a little bit is the AI. While in the races the top 3 racers did put up a good fight. The rest of the competitors, however, would often get stuck behind a wall or checkpoint. While this helped me win some of my races, some of the AI competitors increasingly either got in my way or caused a massive pileup of cones and cars.

Sadly, the AI isn’t the only problem I had with this title, one being the car engine noises. In keeping with the RC car style they have also kept that whinny noise that is usually associated with them. This can get quite annoying after a few races, but luckily you can drown out the wail with the fantastic soundtrack.

The music itself is a metal / rock sort of style. In comparison to other racing games this track list mostly reminds me of the Need for Speed franchise. It’s always wonderful to see that even a small developer like Decane still puts effort into the sound design of their games.

I have read on the Internet that many people have experienced glitches with the game, saying that it is virtually “unplayable”. For the time I've been playing the game I haven’t seen an amount of errors / glitches I would consider unacceptable, but your mileage may vary. I would suggest trying out the demo first before buying to see if any issues arise.

The multiplayer could be good, but I wouldn’t know as there were no games available during my testing. I checked many times for an available game but there was no luck. I’m sure the multiplayer would be great fun, but as with most games today which aren’t Call of Duty, they all suffer the same thing: a lack of players. If you have a friend with the same game you could hook up via Direct IP, but this is still too much of a hassle for the end-user to deal with in 2011.

While the whole package included in the game is pretty good for $4.99 USD, there are a few improvements that I would recommend to make this a truly great kart game. Those being a radar system, a more diverse area to drive in and a greater variety of power-ups. With those aspects implemented I think this game could be an even better game then it already is.

Conclusion:
With all things considered Hard Rock Racing is a great buy. It’s great to see developer Decane pay attention to the Mac platform and develop a fantastic Kart racing game. Even with the small amount of issues I experienced with this title, this fiery and lively experience still results in putting a huge smile on my face. If you're up to the challenge, I highly recommend you give Hard Rock Racing a spin.

Pros:
• Driving feels very good
• Great Soundtrack
• Customizable Controls
• Lots of Explosions

Cons:
• Lower quality graphics
• Engine Noises
• Basic weapon choice
