It's taken me a while but I finally was able to allocate funds for the IMG Pro Lifetime membership. In Novemebr(?) I decided not to renew yearly, but to wait for an opportunity to choose this option. It all came together beautifully. I asked my son if he'd rather have a game about designing trains, setting prices, etc. or a game about designing zoos, setting prices, etc. I thought he'd go for the Zoo Tycoon game, because we went to Disney World over spring break. But, he chose RRT3. Then, my wife reminded me I had some hidden money in our checking account because of a jacket she bought me for Christmas that was too big and she had returned it.
So, I noticed the RRT3 was one of the free game options when signing up for IMG Pro. ;-) Glad to be supporting IMG again, this time for life. ;-) Keep up the good work Tunce!

I just read Cadotte's review of CK, and I feel it is a fair and direct review. I grade CK up a bit from him simply because I enjoy the Paradox titles, but I don't yet find CK as engaging as I do EU2, HOI, and Victoria.
I believe one reason for this is because there are significant amounts of time where the player is just waiting for things to happen, such as changes in another kingdom's inheritance line or inheritance rules. Of course, war is always dynamic. I do like how troop strength is recruited in-game, during times of war then back to the fields when peace returns. I feel research is handled well, through cultural diffusion. Although you are actively researching advancements, you can randomly receive technology through cultural diffusion.
My problem is I'm too impatient. If you don't play as a king, then mustering the forces to take on other Dukes & Counts can be risky, because their leiges almost always come to their defense. Ouch! Patience is a virtue in this game.
The game is long, even the shorter scenario will take a few weeks if you're a working/family man.
Edit: Downgraded CK to a 7, time for reflection.

Marathon Complete
It's over. And, it was a great experience. I ran much better than I had hoped, finishing the 26.2 miles in 3:18.43 (2,081 / 40,000 runners). Since I'm 40, the time qualified me for the Boston Marathon in April. But, I think I'm going to wait until 2007 for that one. My running partner didn't qualify for his age group. Hopefully he can do it by next year. We've got room for improvement.
I loved Chicago. I had stopped by there before, but didn't get to do anything. This time, my wife and I, and friends, were able to enjoy ourselves. Of course, it cost us a lot of money, but hell, this only happens every now and then.

The Real Marathon
Nope, not the game - sorry tBC. This weekend I'm running my first marathon in Chicago. Me and 39,999 other people are gonna prove something. What exactly, who knows? I completed my last training run this morning, nothing left but pasta before race day. My goal is 8 minute miles, which is just under 3 hours, 30 minutes. My wife is coming along, not running. We'll have a couple nights in the Windy City. Any recommendations as to "must see on the cheap" activites?

Ramble
Changed blog title to "The Dancing Grappler." That's the name my wife and I talked about for a coffee shop/deli we fantasized about opening once. She was a dance major in college, and I was a wrestler in college.
The county leaders recently rushed through a vehicle inspection requirement for all residents, in the name of protecting jobs. It seems, by requiring people to have their cars inspected, for a fee, which usually leads to unwanted mechanic bills, our industries can continue to spew pollutants into the atmosphere. A check engine light on is an automatic failure. Hell, that could be on because of a bad fuse. Even more annoying is the fact that all the land used to build these special inspection centers on, is owned by the out-going mayor (Bob Corker). He is now running for Bill Frist's vacant Senate seat here in Tennessee. Problem for me is, I actually like the guy!
I really would like to see a county wide boycott of this whole inspection process. What would "they" do in the face of massive civil disobedience?
I'm back at school, working on bringing cultural literacy to another group of 12 year olds. Whew!
About a month ago, I converted a refridgerator into a keg-erator. Ice cold Sam Adams now pours from a tap in my garage. Delicious!
Lately, I've been playing a Civ3 game regularly. It's been a long time since I've done that. Outside of testing HOI2, the only other game I'm playing is Crusader Kings. It is a really neat game. I love the sim feel to this game in terms of how you are a character, trying to marry well, marry off court/family memebers to influential kingdoms, and assassinating those that are in the way.
This fall is the first time my 4 year-old has played any organized sports, U6 soccer. I'm excited for him, because he loves movement. My 7 year-old is playing in a flag football league, which is interesting because football is so specialized compared to other sports.
Next weekend, I'm going with my wife to her 20 year HS reunion. Fun, fun, fun. She was voted "least changed" at her 10 year. She cracks me up with her sudden interest in working out, over the last few months. I'm thinking of requesting that her HS class has one of these things every year. ;-)
Definitely looking forward to football season. I hope my Dolphins can improve upn last season's debacle. Surely they can. Come on Saban, get it going!
