Deep Thoughts

Why does the sun lighten our hair, but darkens our skin?

Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed?

Why don't you ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?

Why is "abbreviated" such a long word?

Why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"?

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons?

Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?

Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?

Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food?

Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes?

Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections?

You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff?!

Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?

Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together?

If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?

If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?

Only in America...

...do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

...do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries, and a diet coke.

...do laws allow people to eat a hamburger, put on their make-up, talk on the phone, read the newspaper and drive at the same time, but not allow drinking.

...do banks leave both doors open and then chain the pens to the counters.

...do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

...do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

...do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

...do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Timelimits SUCK!

After playing some Warcrap III, I think it would be time to rant a little bit about timelimits in games.

I despise them. The only time where a time limit is OK for me in a game, is for games that are races, or event driven. Like Tony Hawks, or Vehicle Racing games. But when you have a colony, and have to micromanage the hell out of everything because the elements are too stupid to do things on their own, and then on top of that are forced to do everything in the bleeding world under 5 minutes?! Forget it. I'll pass.

Actually, in fact, when I come across time limits... I usually say screw it, and punch in all the cheat codes I can get my hands on, and just muddle through the level onto the next.

Timelimits are as bad a level making device, as the ole' "endless enemy supply" cop-out. Thats another rant, so I'll save that one.

So, timelimits? Why? What good is that? For me, I like to enjoy a game, and explore what I can, and do what I must. I don't want anyone (or thing) telling me I have to do everything I want in just a wee smidget of time.

Anyhoo, playing some Warcraft III got me into this mood. I'm always thrown into a pissy when these "craft" games stick in a level with a time limit on them. Grr.

Seatbelt Laws, Enforced?

(I'll first say, I wear my seatbelt like a pair of glasses, I feel nekid without it)

This is something that truly baffles me about the US law enforcement agencies... and overall thinking of the United States.

Ok, so let's strictly enforce the "You must wear a seatbelt while driving or riding in a vehicle" law. Why? What does that have to do with anything regarding reducing the accidents and deaths of others, caused by those who are drunk, or driving with a cell phone, or otherwise not paying attention? People who don't use their seatbelt are putting themselves at risk, and that is all. Not others, themselves.

In my opinion, laws that are to 'protect yourself from yourself' are purely stupid laws that really should not have the manpower and money wasted in enforcing them. If someone wants to kill themselves, let them.

Now, anything that is a law to protect others from the idiots, those should be enforced! Like, laws against drunk driving, laws to prevent idiots from using their cell phones while driving, or laws to stop red-light runners. Those are things that get other people killed. Regardless if you are wearing your own seatbelt or not.

Just a rambling... something I thought I would write down before I forget it.

The 17 year Red-Eyed Buggaboos Attack!

Well, its official, the seven year red-eyed cicadas have hit our area. They started crawling out of the ground early last week during our heavy rain that lasted all week. This week, they are starting up their engines and letting it rip.

It is the strangest sound I have ever heard out of a bug really. See, I used to live in Arizona, where we get yearly cicadas that drone on at a high pitched razz. It got a bit deafening at times if you were outside in the middle of summer in the middle of the day (which, in Arizona, that was a pretty stupid thing to do in itself).

However, I sine moved out to the Midwest, where I love it. These type of cicadas are quite an interesting thing. Their sound is nothing I can type out, but I guess the closest thing I could say it sound like, is a distant home alarm going off continuously. Very odd.

Anyhow, they have hit! It only gets louder from here, the experts say. So loud that people and animals are not safe outside??? Gimmie a break! I can't imagine that being true. Old wife's tale. We'll see I guess.
