BitTorrent

OK. I understand the idea behind BitTorrent and the benefits of shared bandwidth. Why doesn't it seem to ever benefit me?

Case in point: Last night, I tried downloading the Community Bonus Pack Vol.2 for UT2k4 using the BitTorrent link given at Planet Unreal. The download was 191 Megs big. Pretty darn hefty. Well after 4 hours of "Torrenting," I found that I had uploaded considerable more than I had downloaded and I was still had at least 50 Megs to go. There were typically around 30 peers, most of which weren't contibuting to my download. Since I wanted to go to bed, I quit out and shutdown. This morning I tried to restart the download only to have it say there weren't any peers to be found, so there was no progress. Ultimately, I said "Screw It," and I started a fresh direct download from one of the other mirrors. Within 30 minutes, I had my download and I was done.

I have had other experience with BitTorrent, and the results are similar. As an end user, am I truly benefiting, or am I just helping servers from getting swamped? I'm not sure....

I've WON.........NOT!

Well for about the 3rd or 4th time, I've won the Spanish lottery. My first winning announce came in the form of a snail mail letter to my work. I found it rather weird since I had never been to Spain, and anything that I would have entered in, I would have provided my home address. Today, I checked my .Mac email and found that once again, I have won the Spanish Lottery. They have informed me that I have won 1.5 million euros, not once but twice (two emails)! I can't quite figure out why Spain wants to give me their money, but what the heck...I guess the life of luxury is ahead of me. There is a disclaimer that I can't reveal my winnings to the public... ZOINKS! Looks like I've screwed myself again....

In all honesty, does anybody actually fall for this stuff. I can only imagine that some must, since I keep getting this junk!

I feel dirty....

OK, so back in April, the Xbox dropped to $149. That was enough for me to jump on the bandwagon and get one. I have to say, despite my feelings for Microsoft and my allegence to Nintendo (I have GC, N64, GB, GBC, GBA, and GBA-SP) it is actually a pretty impressive machine. I'm sorry I missed out on the Halo edition which came out shortly after I got mine. Kinda miffed about that, since Halo was the first title I grabbed (fear not, I still play it on my Mac). I've subscribed to Xbox Live which is pretty well implemented. Aside from some of the annoying chatter of some, it is pretty cool. So my library grows.... I guess my only real gripe is the scant documentation that comes with the Xbox and it's accessories.

Nifty

I think it is about time that I make use of this most nifty feature. I now can venture into the world of blogging where people can read the random sewage that my brain comes up with. I encourage feedback, so fire away!!! Hmmm....now which button do I press.....
