Other news.

Through an incredible bit of sheer luck I have acquired a second RGB monitor after someone tipped me off to its existence. It arrived at my office two days ago, and here it still sits, pallet-packed, for lack of a pair of helping, young, virile male hands like my own for assistance. Hey, it weighs 160 pounds! Incredibly, the shipping via freight only set me back 70 dollars. The Sony PVM2570 I have had since 1998 is the same size but weighs a lot less, around 120 pounds I believe--and I paid 400 for it. It still has the topcurl issue with the picture that I have never fixed. Hopefully this one won't have any visual issues--I haven't pulled the cardboard and plastic-wrap off of it yet but it did arrive undamaged. I would have wanted multiple RGB monitors for a gameroom eventually, the Sony has a Trinitron screen but the topcurl has always been annoying, and hey! It's a Sony! (Grr.) The new one is an NEC. It even has the classic NEC logo on it.

As a tribute I have taken it upon myself to put together an RGB modification for my NEC TurboGrafx--yeah yeah, I copped out and bought a cheap TG-16 to practise on. The last thing I want to do is kill my precious SuperGrafx or Duo. I am getting braver though--I'm already investigating an amplifier IC and it looks really easy. (No I can't read Japanese! Just forward to page 8 for the wiring diagram.) The chip is in the old Model 1 Sega Genesis, which would theoretically make them cheap, if I can ever find a flea market, thrift store, or pawn shop that has any of them. Broken units would probably have perfectly working chips so I'm keeping my eyes open.

I've switched my phone over to t-mobile a little early--screw at&t. I got the nokia 6600 to replace my 3650, Kel wanted the 6010. "It's simpler, and free is good!" Well yes, but after you've had a gadgetphone how can you save the universe without one? Go Go Gadget... cellphone.

Speaking of which, there are actually at least a couple of versions of Gradius for Symbian, in fact now that I think of it there could be three by now! And possibly a Salamander, though I'm less sure on that one. I'll post links when I find them. I had read an article somewhere that mentioned Gradius and Castlevania would be available from at&t on April 1 of this year--and they still aren't so I have no clue how to get ahold of these games. For anybody in Japan, do you have to subscribe to the service or is there any other way to get ahold of them for an American phone? (Supported hardware, of course.) Gradius V Limited Edition is finally available for pre-order (thought they'd never get around to listing it) so mine is in the bag. Curiously, there is also a GBA version of Guardian Heroes on the way. I really hate the repackaging of old games for the GBA but here's a genuine exception. I don't think the GBA can manage half of the effects of the original game, but as it's being reprogrammed completey as opposed to ported, I expect it should come through the transition swimmingly. The new Berzerk looks great, can't wait.

She's alive... alive!

It started out innocently enough. "Hey, there are some good prices on ebay baby! Wow!"

It was just too cute when she asked me to get a retired Boyd's Bear. And who can deny a beautiful girl her ornamental jewelry? Not me. But at least she started up her own ebay account to shop with--ha! A manly man like me with all this girly stuff in the bidding history? Balderdash! :P

However. It looks like I have created a monster, there is no turning back now. May the Lord have mercy on my soul for the pinkness and cutification I have unleashed upon the earth.

What religion best suits you?

I'm not at all surprised by this.

Take the quiz: "WHAT RELIGION BESTS SUITS YOU?"

Luciferian
Instead of worshipping Satan as a figure of Darkness, you worship Lucifer as a figure of liberation, illumination and wisdom. You are generally kind and caring, but you do have a darker side that rears up from time to time.

The last time I had this much fun, I was...

Baking the invisible paté.

Cynical fortune cookies.

So dad pulls me away from work to go eat at the Jumbo Buffet, it's a great all-you-can-eat Chinese place for about six bucks a head. We're shooting the breeze and I finish before him when the waitress brings our check and cookies.

I unwrapped my fortune cookie and it said "Many a false step is taken by standing still." I wrapped it back up and told her I didn't want my fortune, it wasn't very good. Take it back and bake it some more, it's not done yet.

Not to be outdone, dad grabs his and says "Some men dream of fortunes. Others dream of cookies." It's been a while since I had a really good fortune cookie but when did they start writing sardonic ones?
