MSNBC snafu

MSNBC's webpage usually lists their top recommended stories right between their Newsweek headlines and their "Inside MSNBC" headlines. But today there was some kind of error that caused a "Data Not Available" message to appear instead.

So I have an amusing screenshot of a headline asking "Can Mel Gibson Redeem Himself?" followed immediately by the answer: "Data Not Available".

That pretty much summed up the article- no one knows the answer for certain. But normally you'd have to read the entire article to find out.

I'm sorry to say the website returned to normal a few minutes later.

Image shown is for display purpose

I was shopping for a wireless router and came across the following:

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=252111

Note the caption under the picture: "Image shown is for display purpose"

Call me crazy, but aren't ALL images shown for display purposes?

More Funny Accidents

One of my favorite things in life is to find unfortunate, unintended juxtapositions. See my previous blog entry ("Too Funny Not to Share") for an example.

Good news, I have two more!

A couple of months ago, IMG posted a review of A Tale In The Desert. Here's a link:

../news/story.php?ArticleID=13133

Note the screenshot of the woman with the, um, bikini? And then notice how IMG's website put "Click to Enlarge" underneath?

Surely someone finds that as funny as I do.

One more. On Amazon, here is a book which, despite the deliberatively provocative title and picture, is actually a novel, rather like Bridget Jones' Diary.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0312316380/002-5651853-4591224?n=283155
Anyway, Amazon.com's web engine slapped the standard "Search Inside" logo on the picture, along with an arrow pointing at the book. Study that carefully.

Too funny not to share

I get sent a daily summary of comp-sci-related headlines from the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM). Today's headlines include items such as "Council Releases Blueprint for Federal Cybersecurity Research" and "Net Neutrality Debate Heats Up".

Then we get following two headlines, one right after the other:

- Researchers Use Tongue as Interface
- Wanted: Girls Interested in Computers

A great iTMS lack has been rectified!

When the iTunes Music Store opened, one of the first songs I searched for was Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street". I even wrote to Apple in the first week and mentioned it as something they should get. To me it was always a fly in the ointment, a nagging reminder that their catalog, while good, still lacks some selections which I consider to be fundamental.

But this week Baker Street is finally available. Hooray! (Thanks to my brother for letting me know.) ow fitting that this should occur as Apple begins counting down to their 1 billionth song sold. Kudos to you, Apple!

Now then. When is the store going to start selling Aimee Mann's "Wise Up" from the Magnolia soundtrack? C'mon, Apple, we're waiting!
