Ah, Lara... After so many great adventures, it's hard to think that an end has come -- buried in a pit somewhere in Egypt. While many gamers sigh at the thought of another Tomb Raider quest, fans of the series surely remember her exploits fondly. In the previous title, Tomb Raider 4: The Last Revelation (now considered by many to be the most difficult of the series), Lara's long, treacherous quest in the land of the pharaohs leaves her fate up in the air. Now, considered lost by those few close to her, a memorial service is held in her honor. Sitting around, stories begin to be swapped about some of her adventures never told before. This is where Tomb Raider: Chronicles picks up, as a collection of four individual stories about the indelible Ms. Croft. Where The Last Revelation was a long sequence in the same place, Chronicles will definitely keep you interested with its variety. Not only will you visit different places across the globe; you'll also get another chance to see the teenage Lara first introduced in the previous game. Throw in a few new moves, graphic improvements, OS X support, and a level editor, and you've got the last in the current series of Tomb Raider titles. Gameplay and Controls Those familiar with even one of the Tomb Raider titles should have no trouble picking up and playing Tomb Raider: Chronicles. The basic moves are the same combinations of jumping, grabbing, and pushing rock ten times her weight. Core and Eidos know when to leave a good thing alone, and there's no reason to mess with controlling Lara now. Those who have never tried Tomb Raider before will also be able to start with a gentle tutorial to get the hang of moving around. What's really nice is the tutorial is now an optional part of the first level, so those experienced gamers can move on and get into the action immediately. As with the previous games, Chronicles also adds a few new moves to Lara's arsenal of options. One of the first you'll come across is a new skill to balance across a tightrope, which comes in handy for getting over high areas. Also included is the ability to swing from parallel bars (not on your average playground though), and a cool new stealth move we'll discuss later. The inventory also builds upon the last game, with many items able to be combined together in order to work. Find a laser sight? Well, chances are it will fit onto that gun nicely and give you a sniper rifle able to zoom in our your enemies.
