“I’m bored! Sarevok’s dead, we barely got a celebration, there’s nowhere left to explore! Oh, shaddup ya’ stuck up elf, I’m sicka’ the Sword Coast and I’m sicka’ you!” Wasn’t that a tragic bit of dialogue? Are your adventurers restless and irritable? Have they resorted to in fighting and childish bickering in order to fill the hours before the Underceller opens? Soon, your adventuring parties can rejoice, the Baldur’s Gate expansion pack, Tales of the Sword Coast (TotSC) is nearly ready for the Mac and will be shipping toward the end of May.

At first, I was a tad skeptical of Tales of the Sword Coast. It contains new items, monsters, spells, NPCs, quests, the necessity for thieves to backstab from BEHIND their victims (yay!) and four new map areas. These new areas include Ulgoth’s Beard (a small town to the East of Baldur’s Gate), an Ice Cavern, an Uncharted Island in the sea to the West of Candlekeep and the infamous Durlag’s Tower. These new areas may either be accessed by loading the “Final Save” after defeating Sarevok upon which your party will be taken to Ulgoth’s Beard or by making the journey to Ulgoth’s Beard manually. After TotSC’s areas are completed, Sarevok will have to be dispatched once more due to the fact that TotSC takes place before his demise.

Now, four new map areas doesn’t sound like much, does it? I was afraid that my mighty party of Ghen, Imoen, Ajantis, Khalid, Jaheira and Kivan would smite these new challenges without even breaking a sweat. I was quite mistaken; these new areas are vast, with indoor & outdoor arenas of battle to explore and loaded with powerful enemies, deadly traps, puzzles and riddles. Thus, an unsuspecting group of level 2 adventurers would do best to avoid the TotSC areas lest they wish their heads removed from their bodies. The puzzles in Durlag’s Tower don’t just frustrate one’s mind, they kill too.
