Marine Air Assault
The battle is not going well. Rebel forces have you and your company of Marines pinned down in a bombed-out office building in the middle of town. You pop your head up to look out the window you have been ducking under to stay out of the line of fire. In the courtyard you see three or four burning vehicles, and and two more multi-story office buildings. You catch a glint from one of the balconies as an enemy combatant raises his AK-47 and fires at your position. You quickly duck out of sight as the bullets cut through the air above your head. Quickly, you return fire with your M4A1 carbine, hitting the gunman and knocking him from his high perch.

No time for celebrating, though. The courtyard is crawling, and you need to get to the other side. You start to move through the building, as your fellow Marines exchange fire with the rebel forces outside. You hear a familiar clinking sound come from behind you as one of your squad members yells "Grenade!" You double-time it into the next room as the explosive detonates, taking out one of your squad mates. No time to check on him, you need to get to your objective.

As you run from one building to another, you attempt to remain under cover from enemy fire. You glance at the courtyard, and see that most of the enemy rebels have been taken care of, so you head to the roof of one of the buildings. You take a quick look around. Sarge said it would be up here somewhere. Then you spy it, the FGM-148 Javelin portable anti-tank guided missile. You drop your carbine and heft the missile launcher onto your shoulder. You point the targeting system at an overpass where rebel tanks are advancing toward a Marine checkpoint. You need to take care of them before they get there. The sophisticated targeting system locks onto the first tank, and you fire. The missile pops into the air, and comes down hard on the tank, destroying it. Twice more, target and fire, and the tanks are dispatched. Soon you hear the sarge on the radio telling the squad to regroup on the other side of the city to prepare for another engagement.

This is what you can expect when you delve into Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (COD4) from Infinite Ward and Aspyr. This multi award-winning game has been available to PC and console users since November of last year, and finally Mac gamers are going to be able to experience one of the most realistic depictions of modern warfare available.

The developers of the Call of Duty series have always prided themselves on providing an intense, immersive experience to the game player. Using advanced AI, complex missions, and realistic squad interactions, the single-player experience was second-to-none. You really were able to imagine yourself in the middle of World War II, on the front lines, behind enemy lines, where ever the war sent you. Infinity Ward takes that experience and transplants it to the 21st century for the first time in the series history.

In the game, you will take the role of both a British SAS agent and a United States Marine soldier. The game deals with a fictional, but never-the-less realistic scenario, occurring on two different fronts. The first front deals with Russian ultranationalists in a Russia torn apart by civil war. We then jump into the fight against rebel forces that have staged a coup in a small Middle-Eastern country. The game will transport you around the world to many true-to-life locations such as Middle East, Azerbaijan, Russia, and the Ukraine. The plot, dealing with government cover-ups, black-ops, and nuclear weapons, is very deep and extremely involved. The level of detail in the locations you visit is astonishing. Having never been to any of these locations myself, I can almost imagine what they actually look like from playing through the game. Again, attention to detail has always been one of the hallmarks of the Call of Duty series, and COD4 is no exception.
