Fable: The Lost Chapters September 17, 2007 | David Peck | |
One of the many strengths of the game is the interplay of fame or infamy and the subsequent reaction the citizens of Albion to your Hero's presence. Interaction with in-game characters is enjoyable as the citizens of Albion remember who you and are very likely to comment on past acts and social faux pas, with a tendency to rain kudos for all good deeds meted out. Another related aspect is that the Hero is not locked into a particular alignment. Choices made on the fly move the Hero in one direction or the other creating a complex character. If really good, a halo might be displayed over your Hero's head and suddenly you'll notice women (and even men) with large hearts of affection displayed. How far can you take these tokens of affection? That remains to be seen, but if not careful your Hero might end up married- a different kind of adventure. The world of Albion is a magical place of discovery with many secrets, puzzles, adversaries, and monsters of all kinds. Combat is robust, magic is powerful and the quests are interesting, providing many opportunities to exercise and improve your Hero's talents while pushing him towards good or evil. The towns are teaming with life with many chances to interact with the locals. So your mission if you choose to accept it is to jump into the skin of this Hero and live The Fable- learn to fight with blade, bow, and magic, journey forward on quests, make the choices for good or evil by helping the good people or striking them down, have men cheer you or skedaddle in fear, drive the girls crazy with desire, discover your true destiny, and basically go have some fun. Fable: The Lost Chapters includes the original Fables content in addition to many new areas for exploration, additional quests, new armor, spells, and weapons. Finalized Mac minimum system requirements have yet to be determined. Currently undergoing Mac beta testing, I played a beta build of Fable on my 1.67 Mhz G4 Powerbook and while I received "low end machine" warnings, the game plays well which is a good sign for the final version and low-end hardware. However Fable's compatibility with MacBooks and Minis are questionable at this time due to their lack of hardware vertex shaders. Stay tuned to Inside Mac Games for a full review of this title after its retail release.
