Jay Moore Speaks On Indie Game Production 12:17 PM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story
Game programming resource center Gamasutra.com has recently published an interview with GarageGames' evangelist and all-around nice guy Jay Moore. GarageGames, owners of the content creating Torque 3D gaming engine, provide independent game developers access to a high quality gaming engine and a complete toolbox of design applications at a fraction of the cost of regular game engine licenses. The low-cost gaming system is the backbone for many popular cross-platform games - Orbz, ThinkTanks, Dark Horizons: Lore, as well as the upcoming GravRally. In the interview, Jay speaks on the challenges of surviving as an indie developer, compares and contrasts the different distribution channels currently available, and touches on the company's commitment to providing content beyond the Windows platform: "Back in the day, we'd consider any platform with over 100,000 installed base as being worth making games for. I think that Mac OS X is headed toward the twelve million mark, so I think it's about economies of scale for an independent developer. Even Linux is gaining desktop popularity and can be a good revenue stream."
