X2 - The Threat Announced for the Mac 8:08 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
Virtual Programming pulled out a big surprise late yesterday with the announcement they had signed X2 - The Theat for the Mac. This 3D space simulation was released late last year for the PC and received glowing reviews for its impressive graphics and revitalization of the genre. X2 - The Threat puts the player in control of a variety of spacecraft as you trade and fight your way to create an empire in the universe. Here's more from the official X2 site on how your ships can be upgraded: Many defensive and offensive systems are available. Hull strengths, different shield systems, enemy radar tracking devices and warning systems make up some of the defensive capabilities. There are numerous offensive laser systems, with associated damage properties, rates of fire and ship placement (front, back, top, bottom) along with a large collection of missiles for ship to ship and ship to station attrition. For more on X2 - The Threat, have a read through Virtual Programming's site. They don't have a hard release date yet for the game but are expecting it to be available sometime in Q3 of this year.
