Continuing their rounds at E3, IGN PC has posted a piece that takes a look at Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, the next installment in the popular Jedi Knight series. This title puts Kyle Katarn aside and allows players to start from scratch, creating and customizing their own Padawan as they see fit.

One of the more talked-about features is the ability to wield either dual lightsabers or a double-ended one. Though the coolness factor alone may leave players wondering about the usefulness of a single lightsaber, IGN's article points out some inherent flaws in having both hands tied up:

While you gain a slight advantage with the staff lightsaber since you can attack enemies behind you, you won't be able to use force powers that require your hands at all. You're also limited a bit if you dual-wield lightsabers. Again, you won't be able to use force powers that require free hands. What you will be able to do though is force throw one of your lightsabers at some poor fool while still swinging away with the other. When asked whether you could sheath one of your sabers to use your force powers in the game, producer Brett Tosti said it wasn't in the game, but did say it's something they might consider.
Jedi Academy will also feature several kinds of multiplayer games, including standard deathmatch and capture the flag game types. As with many other team-based titles, players will be able to choose from a variety of specialized professions ranging from demolitions to Jedi Knights.

Other features discussed include further customization options for players, controllable vehicles and a non-linear single-player experience.

While no announcement has been made about the possibility of a Mac version, a port is not unlikely due to the commercial success of the previous Jedi Knight title.
