Aspyr Status Report Updates 8:46 AM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story
Famed Macintosh game publishers Aspyr Media have recently updated their Project Status page with news regarding some of their upcoming releases. Further to IMG's interview last week with Aspyr Marketing Director Amy Torres, the Mac version of Electronic Art's Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets has passed the approval stage and is currently in duplication. Players anxious to get their hands on this title should expect it to start appearing on store shelves forthwith.Next on the list, sports fans will be happy to hear that the realistic 12-course golfing simulator Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 2003 is currently listed as being in beta, and is expected to be released in April of this year. Westlake Interactive lead programmer Ken Cobb has been spearheading the project, which has almost reached the Final Candidate stage:We're very excited to bring Tiger to the Mac. This is a terrific golf game, with beautifully rendered courses and excellent physics simulation. It also features motion-captured animation, even including special 'reaction' animations for Tiger, such as his famous 'fist pump'. The Macintosh version will work under both OS9 and OS X, and take full advantage of the latest Jaguar OpenGL features. It will include Mac-to-Mac network play and support for GameRanger. Aspyr's first dual-platform release, SpyHunter, is also in beta, and both versions of the game are expected to make it into player's hands next month. With it's modest system requirements of a 400 MHz G3 processor, 16 MB video card, and 128 MB of RAM, this game is sure to please even the most die-hard fans of the game's original 80's arcade classic. Also expected to be released on April, Terminal Reality's recently-announced vampiric thriller BloodRayne is also at a beta stage. If Aspyr's release date estimations are correct, we may possibly witness the extreme rarity of seeing the Mac version of a multi-platform game being released before its PC version: the PC version is expected to be released in the middle of May.And finally, EA's highly-anticipated Mac port of Medal of Honor Allied Assault Spearhead, Maxis' extremely popular SimCity 4, and Ritual Entertaiment's first-person action / space shooter Star Trek Voyager Elite Force II are currently estimated for May 2003 or later releases. The games, which are respectively in the beta, alpha, and early development cycles of the game ports, fill out the rest of Aspyr's current dancecard, and are expected to keep Mac gaming fans busy for the majority of the summer.Stay tuned to IMG as these games progress towards being completed and released.
