Quake 3 1.31 Released for OS X 6:39 PM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
Graeme Devine of id Software update his .plan twice today with news of a new patch for Quake 3: Arena. This update brings the game onto common ground with its windows counterpart, as well as making a number of Mac-specific changes. While his first post notes the mouse bug many users have experienced in OS X, he quickly made a second update about another beta to switch it back to its original state. Here's a clip from his first posting: Quake 3 1.31 for OS X has been posted on the id ftp site. We don't have the benefit of outside testing for OS X builds, so it is a BETA release (ie. use at your own risk).Fixed: - stereo sound - works every time on powerbooks - mouse stays accelerated when you quit - some dual monitor stuff For those wondering, an OS 9 version is on the way once he recovers his build of Codewarrior. The second update notes the mouse bug isn't quite taken care of yet. Here's the lowdown: There's a new build up. It's marked BETA2.Mouse movement is now back to normal. The side effect of this is that the mouse isn't staying accelerated when you quit the game again. It shows it's accelerated in System Preferences, but you need to reclick the position to make it happen. Uggh. I really really really call the system functions to put the settings back. You can now switch out of the app as well. For you adventurous types, head over and download the updated version of the application now. Make sure you already have version 1.30 installed before attempting this patch.
