Updates from MacSoft; Vampire is Gold 11:41 AM | Michael Eilers | Comment on this story
MacSoft has long been a staple of Mac game publishing, surviving even the dark days when MacPlay was nonexistent and Mac indie publishers such as Logicware were faltering. Retaining their unique identity despite several "takeovers" of their parent companies, they have offered a diverse catalog of titles for all types of Mac gamers. Unfortunately, they have also been a little quiet, as of late -- with so many titles on the horizon and so little information, gamers begin to get nervous.
Al Schilling of MacSoft decided to break the silence in a major way earlier this morning with an update on all of their titles in progress. Not only did he offer news on Stronghold and Max Payne, he shares the good news that Vampire: The Masquerade -- Redemption is finally "gold master" and should ship in a few weeks. There is a lot of information in his update, so we'll break it down for you:
Schilling has related that Varcon has been tapped for the Mac OS port of Stronghold; they just completed the port of Breakout and ported the RTS Civilization II several years back, so this experienced team should make short work of this castle-building title. He projects they will complete the port by March of 2002.
He also reports that the Mac OS version of Myth III: The Wolf Age is now "in the home stretch" and should go into duplication "any day now." As the PC version just went gold, this is fantastic news for Mac players anticipating this RTS prequel.
Just in time for Halloween, Schilling also related that Vampire: The Masquerade is indeed gold master, and should be shipping in a few weeks. For more details on this game make sure you check out our preview of the title.
Many Mac gamers have been scratching their heads about Max Payne -- who will be doing the port, and when will we be able to play it? Here is Schilling's answer:
Our agreement with Take 2 requires that they furnish a Mac version of Max Payne. This means that we won't be handling the port ourselves. However, I have been told that a porting house has agreed to do the work and, we should see Max on the Mac somewhere around April 2002. An enigmatic answer, but more than we knew previously at the very least. Let's hope Westlake Interactive is on the shortlist of developers that Take Two might contract to port this game.
Last but not least, here is a roundup of the remaining MacSoft titles and their status:
Jeopardy 2nd Edition is in final beta.
Wheel of Fortune 2nd Edition is at FC. We are awaiting approvals from Sony.
You didn't ask about Civ III but, the good folks at Westlake tell me it is going VERY well. We are currently scheduled to ship in February 2002. I'm hoping to beat that date.
We are also working on a Mac version of the soon-to-be-released Survivor computer game. We will ship in November, within a few days of the PC version.
An excellent update from MacSoft, and an end to a period of silence that has existed since MWNY this summer.
