Supreme Commander 2 Released 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 8 comments
Virtual Programming has announced the release of Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander 2 for Mac. The real time strategy game drops players into the middle of a war between three galactic empires and gives them the chance to command enormous armies comprised of a host of customizable units. "Wow," Virtual Programming CEO Mark Hinton muttered when torn away from Supreme Commander 2 after an all-night session. "This is the premier strategy game for the Mac this year. The gameplay is exquisitely balanced, the graphics are immersive, and the storyline grabs you by the throat and never lets go. We've been playing it non-stop on the LAN in our offices. What day is it?" "I have been a Mac fan for years, and have always been a big supporter of our games on the Mac," said Supreme Commander 2 lead designer Chris Taylor, who co-founded the development studio Gas Powered Games. "It's a great platform made more so because Macs use Intel processors. A lot of people have Mac laptops, which should be able to run Supreme Commander 2 great." A single bullet. That's all it takes to break the fragile peace between the United Earth Federation (UEF), the Illuminate, and the Cybran Nation, a mere 25 years after the three created the Colonial Defense Coalition and worked together to defeat the invading aliens known as Seraphim. Welcome to Supreme Commander 2, the best-selling futuristic real-time strategy game that's now available for Mac OS X from Virtual Programming. Supreme Commander 2's solo campaign consists of 18 missions equally divided between the UEF, Illuminate, and Cybran Nation. Each six-mission set stars a character from that faction, advancing the game's overall storyline as players set political and military schemes in motion. Players amass and upgrade powerful armies, using their research capabilities to develop experimental war machines that can dramatically alter the balance of power in the blink of an eye. Battles take place on an epic scale, with massive land, air, and naval units clashing in visually spectacular environments, all of it brought to life with advanced rendering technology. Developer Gas Powered Games also redesigned the game's user interface to give players a better focus on battlefield tactics, while the new Strategic Zoom view serves up vital real-time feedback so players can make the split-second decisions that are crucial to victory. Other gameplay modes include skirmish and online multiplayer, which is available for up to eight players. Supreme Commander 2's maps range from the chilly wasteland of Arctic Refuge to idyllic Setons Clutch and its vast expanses of water.Requirements: - Mac OS 10.6.3 or higher
