Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening Reviewed

Macworld recently posted a new review of Awakening, an expansion for Dragon Age: Origins. In the add-on players take on the role of Grey Warden Commander as they rebuild the order, resolve conflicts with "The Architect", and decide the fate of the darkspawn. Macworld gave the game a score of 3.5 out of 5 mice.

From the review:

Just as in the original Dragon Age, you play as a Grey Warden commander tasked with dealing with another uprising of darkspawn. You have the option to port your character from Dragon Age: Origins and some of his/her equipment to this new game or you can create a new character. The characters in the world will offer some different dialogue options if you port over your other character (King Alistair, for example, will greet you warmly). But the gameplay and story is fundamentally the same because you’re dealing with an almost entirely new cast of potential party members. The only returning party member is Oghren, the drunken, womanizing warrior dwarf. He’s also the least original character from the Dragon Age universe, so thanks Bioware for porting him over.

The other characters, Anders (an apostate wisecracking human healer mage), Justice (an undead warrior who inhabits a former Grey Warden’s body), Velenna (a shrill Elven mage who hates everything), Nathaniel Howe (a disgraced former noble/rogue who hates Grey Wardens), and Sigrun (a plucky female dwarven rogue) are all less memorable than the characters you played with in the original game. Velenna is particularly annoying, and making choices she disapproves of was one of the few joys of keeping her around. Amongst this B-squad of talent, Anders is the only one that seemed to be an upgrade over the original cast (as a healer, he would have been much more fun to have than Wynne), as his comic persona made him a much more appealing companion than the rest.
