Gamerz Edge recently posted a review of the PC version of AGON: The Mysterious Codex, a compilation of the first three chapters in the point and click adventure series. Players must help Samuel Hunt solve the puzzles he encounters as he struggles to unravel the mysteries of the ancients. Gamerz Edge gave AGON a score of 7 out of 10. From the review: During play, you will come across many books and many NPCs, and therefore you will have a lot of information ranging from numbers to names to various facts. I appreciate an adventure game that will throw in useful information with non-useful, as that’s realistic, but a better way to manage of all this is sorely needed. A succinct, but complete, conversation and reading log is needed. Things that you read at the start of an episode are often needed much later, and that’s great, I think that can really work—but it’s a pain to ask the player to recall the information and who really wants to have a pen and notepad next to their mouse writing down things which may or may not be useful? It’s something that needs to be integrated into the game to make it flow a lot smoother. All in all the puzzles range from easy to challenging, as you would expect, but there are some major frustrations along the way too, some of which could have been alleviated by a better memory system as previously mentioned. The board game idea is an interesting one, and so far in these episodes it works well. One cool thing is that after you have beaten an episode, you can play the board game again from the main menu, or take it online via the game’s website (agongame.com).
