Dual-core G5 Benchmarks 9:38 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Gamers that have been drooling over the latest additions to the G5 Lineup may be interested in a recent article posted at speed test site Bare Feats. The feature pits Single and Dual-Core G5 Power Macs against each other, with both machines running at the same clock speed of 2.0Ghz. Various intensive tasks are checked, including the usual Photoshop, iMovie, and FileMaker comparisons. Several games are also checked, including UT2004, Doom 3, and Halo, with results shifting depending on the video card used: When it comes to OpenGL 3D accelerated games, the Dual-Core beat the Single-Core two out of three -- until we added the Radeon 9800 Pro SE to the Single-Core. It's a tough call as to which graphics card is most fair in the comparison since we can't really run identical cards on both systems. Bare Feats also analyzes the noise factor, Firewire write speeds, and memory usage. Charts and other info can be found in the feature as well.
