Aspyr Announces Star Wars Battlefront for OS X 8:25 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
In their continuing string of Macworld expo announcements, Aspyr Media has just revealed they will be publishing Star Wars Battlefront for Mac OS X. Battlefront is an acclaimed shooter which lets fans fight it out in massive multiplayer battles ripped straight from the movies. Battlefront has been compared often to Battlefield 1942 in that you can pick a number of character types and a variety of vehicles for both online or singleplayer modes. Here's more from the press release: Players can select one of a number of different soldier types, jump into any vehicle, man any turret on the battlefront and conquer the galaxy planet-by-planet online with their friends or offline in a variety of single player modes. Single player modes include "Instant Action," "Galactic Conquest" and the story-based "Historical Campaigns" mode that lets gamers experience all of the epic battles from Episodes I-VI, fighting from the perspective of each of the four factions within the game. Additionally, the preliminary system requirements are on par with most modern shooters:Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3.6 or later CPU Processor: PowerPC G4/G5 or later CPU Speed: 1GHz or faster Memory: 256MB (512MB recommended) Hard Disk Space: 2.7GB free disk space Video Card (ATI): Radeon 8500 or better Video Card (NVidia): GeForce 2 or better Video Memory (VRam): 64MB Media Required: DVD Drive Aspyr is hoping to have Star Wars Battlefront ready for release this June, and the title is being ported by Beenox Studios.
