In an announcement early Monday afternoon, MacSoft's Al Schilling confirmed that Destineer's Macintosh gaming unit has started shipping Epic Game's highly-anticipated Unreal Tournament 2004 to retailers and is expected in online and retaile stores by the end of this week.

This year's version of the gladiator-style first person shooter, featuring land and air vehicles, dozens of new weapons, new maps and a new Onslaught gaming mode, is shipping nearly simultaneously with the PC version, as promised by MacSoft president Peter Tamte.

Shipping with 95 high quality maps, the game, whose minimum requirements are listed as a 933 MHz G4 with a 32MB AGP Video Card and OS X 10.2.8, will be shipping on DVD only, and carries a retail price of $39.95. As an added bonus to loyal customers, owners of Unreal Tournament 2003 will be eligible for a $10 mail-in rebate from MacSoft.

Head over to the IMG Store to order your own copy of the hot new first person shooter. Readers who have previously put in orders should expect to see their copies arrive once they ship out of the IMG Store Wednesday.
