MacSoft today announced that Unreal Tournament 2004 for the Macintosh has gone gold and is now in duplication. According to MacSoft, the game will be available shortly after the Windows release of the game, though an exact availability date wasn't given. The press release also confirms what has been rumored for the last few days: the Macintosh version will be shipping on DVD only.

Here's more from the official press release:

With 95 levels, many with very large, highly detailed maps, Unreal Tournament will ship on DVD only and carry a suggested retail price of US$39.95. As an added bonus, owners of Unreal Tournament 2003 are eligible for a $10 mail-in rebate with the purchase Unreal Tournament 2004.

The sequel to last year’s hugely popular Unreal Tournament 2003, UT04 takes gladiator combat to a new level with the addition of land and air vehicles, an arsenal of new weaponry (including mines, rocket-propelled grenades and stationary gun turrets), daunting new arenas, epic battlefields and the challenge of the Assault and Onslaught game types.

Unreal Tournament 2004 also adds the UnrealTV broadcast system, which allows hundreds of people to log on and watch famous combatants duke it out, and the return of the mighty Skaarj as a playable race.

Here are the full system requirements: Macintosh 933MHz/G4-G5 or faster processor, Mac OS X v10.2.8 or higher, 256MB RAM, 32MB AGP Video Card, DVD Drive, 6GB hard disk space. Internet or LAN connection required for online play. (Note: Some maps and game types playable on 800MHz, or faster, processors).
