UT2004 Assault Details

One of the modes making a comeback in Unreal Tournament 2004 is the Assault mode. Originally found in Unreal Tournament, Assault places a series of tasks that must be accomplished. Both teams get turns at both attack and defense, and side that completes the objectives in the shortest amount of time wins.

While the Assault games in the original Unreal Tournament were varied, UT2004 sounds like it'll be upping the ante a little. IGN PC recently took an in-depth look at some of the various Assault maps, including one that starts the attacking team off by having them pilot assault fighters in a bid to board a Skaarj mothership. From there, a gravity generator must be destroyed:

There's also a gravity generator to destroy or disable here. Once it's inactive, the new zero-G environment allows players to move a bit more freely in the environment. They'll also need to dodge the floating boxes and detritus located around the level. The real reason to disable the gravity generator is to bridge a large chasm. Once across the chasm, you'll need to find the final objective, a large power supply, and sabotage it to blow up the entire station. What? No one told you this was a suicide mission?
Other Assault maps described include an attack on a moving convoy of trucks, which must be navigated by jumping from vehicle to vehicle, to taking on a factory manned by the infamous Xan himself. Also looked at is the new Onslaught mode, which features a multitude of vehicles, including Scorpions, Hellbenders, and Mantas.
