Jason Whong of Freeverse Software announced a new contest late Thursday night for players of their massively-multiplayer online role playing game Arcane Arena. Dubbed the "Search For The Hidden iPod Contest", the contest will reward players who can find an iPod hidden somewhere in the game: The contest challenges Mac gamers to explore the dungeon and locate the hidden personal Apple iPod of Freeverse President Ian Lynch Smith. The hidden music player contains the entire album of Jared, the Butcher of Song. To assist with the search, a series of clues will guide players toward the chosen spot. Additional clues will be posted to the Freeverse forums at Freeverse.com. The first hidden iPod clue: "...some say in ice..." Arcane Arena, a Mac-only MMORPG programmed by Freeverse's Dave Curran, features a battle-timer system based on the player's speed characteristics. The game also features an open-source monster AI and an open plug-in architecture, allowing players to contribute to their own monster behaviours and skin their own user interface. The game, which was recently updated to version 1.0.5, is a free download from Freeverse's web site. Players can try the game for free with unlimited re-incarnations, however a registration fee of $29.95 US is required for players wanting to progress beyond the fourth level. Update: In an email sent to IMG staff, Jason Whong confirmed that the iPod model up for grabs is the early 5 GB iPod. Also players need not worry about running out of time finding the goods as there curently is no end of contest deadline.
