GarageGames Interview

InGaming has posted an interview with Jeff Tunnell from GarageGames. GarageGames is a group of former Dynamix members who, through the sale and continued development of the Torque Game Engine, are helping independent game developers produce high quality products. This devotion to the 'little people' of the gaming industry is one of the primary focuses of this interview. Here is an excerpt:

InGaming: Garage Games can be seen as making it easier for small time developers to create their games and get them validated (in the sense that their work is actually worth something) and published - even if only for an electronic format initially. With this, it will assist budding game developers to build confidence and try more and more complex projects. However, it appears that this is restricted to only the PC platform. Is there any intent to offer a similar development system for console platforms at any stage?

Jeff Tunnell: It is hard enough for Indies to compete on the PC platform. There is no way they can afford the development budgets or content royalties needed to get a product released on a console. Even development stations for the consoles are out of reach. The PC is a big enough platform to prove yourself and make some money.

The interview also covers some general features of the gaming industry such as game classification, piracy and the whole PC vs console debate. All in all it is a great read for anyone interested in the more general aspects of the gaming industry.
