Interview With Peter Tamte
8:19 AM | Seth Scott | Comment on this story has posted an interview with Peter Tamte, head of Destineer Studios (the publishers-to-be on the Macintosh side), regarding the much-anticipated Mac and PC port of Halo. The interview covers a wide variety of issues, not the least of which are the questions of the delay in porting the much-anticipated game to the Mac and PC.

Halo was released with the launch of the Microsoft XBox, to the chagrin of some Mac gamers. A first-person shooter set on a ringworld, the game features beautiful graphics and landscapes, and what promises to be ferocious action; gamers familiar with the legendary Marathon series already know what is expected of this long-awaited game. The premise? The player (a marine) is part of a human expedition taking refuge from a race of aliens (the "Covenant,") on an enormous ring-shaped world encircling a distant star.

Halo promises to have exceptional multiplayer action in its port, if the success of its predecessors (Myth, Marathon) is any predictor.

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

MC: Have people you've talked to about this been cynical or sarcastic [about the porting project]?

PT: No. Of course, most of the people that I've been talking to are in the Mac media, and they're realists, they know what's going on anyway, but I've gotten nothing but really favorable comments about it. "We know it's coming, we know now when it's coming, we know that Bungie is going to be actively involved..."

MC: Is there any possibility that some of the early Halo material (the Master Chief wielding a light sword, the flamethrower, etc) will make it into the PC builds?

PT: It's too early to say. That's a decision that the people at Bungie, and the people at Gearbox, will have to make. I know that Gearbox is very interested in trying to ensure that the conversion exceeds people's expectations, that people get excited about this version of the game.
