Good news from Westlake Interactive today, as they have announced that their port for MacSoft and Feral Interactive of the acclaimed shooter Max Payne is now in beta testing. This means all of the title's major systems have been put into place, and they just need to work out the last kinks and do any necessary optimization.

The game features a very powerful 3D engine ready to take advantage of high-end graphics cards. The famed "bullet time" gives players a chance at slowing down the action in order to line up shots, similar to the effect in the movie, "The Matrix."

Here's the full scoop on how Westlake is faring with the port:

The Mac version of Max Payne has reached Beta. The game is running well and we're hoping for a short and smooth beta test cycle. Max looks great, and gamers with the latest graphics cards are in for a treat, with high-res photo-realistic textures and advanced features such as anisotropic filtering working.

Max Payne runs under both Mac OS 9 and OS X; the game is being published by our good friends at MacSoft.

Last time IMG spoke with MacSoft, the company hoped to have the game out by June. Stay tuned for any new information as its development continues.
