Bill Roper Interview 8:34 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
Our good friend Corey "You're all doing a great job and I read your sites daily. Keep up the good work." Tamas from MacGamer has posted an interview with Blizzard producer Bill Roper. The interview covers various topics include Warcraft III, the races, the Mac version, and more. Here's a clip from the interview: We started with the idea of six races and we thought "Six? That sounds great! Twice as many as Starcraft! Twice is good!". One of the races we considered never got announced. We started with that race and thought "Yep, that's interesting, but what do we do with them?" So they never made the cut. We were then down to five including the four you know from the beta: the Humans, Orcs, Night Elves and Undead. Demons were going to be our other race, but as we started to think about the overall story and how people go through the single player game we realized that trying to create a player-controlled Demon race would undercut the nature of their power and scope. We'd sit and talk about how they'd interact in the storyline and what they meant to the world the player was in and we had to figure out what their harvesting units would be... and that just seemed to make them less awe-inspiring and mysterious. We looked at that and the fact that a lot of unit types you have to design for balance, for example the peon or peasant, and we couldn't think of a way to do that and keep the Demons as incredibly powerful as we wanted them to seem. For more be sure to head over to MacGamer for the rest of this very interesting interview.Warcraft III is sheduled to be released in June, 2002. Pre-orders are available through the IMG web store.
