One of the very interesting announcements at this Macworld Expo has been the news concerning Sony Online Entertainment's web games at The Station. These popular Java-based games are now Mac compatible on both OS 9 and Mac OS X. While there are still a few stragglers, we talked with Sony's representative Dallas Dickson on the show floor and he was confident they would have the last few games compatible soon. Right now Mac users should be able to play name-brand games like Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune as well as many classic and casino games with only a web connection. Here's an excerpt from Sony's press release:
Starting on January 7, 2002, Mac users can begin enjoying games on The Station, including Jeopardy! Online, Wheel of Fortune Online, Yuetan, Empyrean, Bingo, 99s, Slots and Checkers. Over the coming months, Sony Online Entertainment will be working to make all of its games available for the Mac.While Mac users may be a little disappointed that none of Sony Online's premium games (Everquest, Planetside, etc.) were announced, you can be sure this is a great first step. It's great to see a company as excited about the Mac as Sony is, and it's sure to mean great things for both Sony and Apple in the future. Online gamers will surely love the expanded web games selection, so give The Station a look now at www.station.com.
