Macworld Magazine Cuts Back On Game Coverage
7:02 AM | Cord Kruse | 28 comments

Some subscribers to magazine have noticed the absence of Peter Cohen's Game Room column from the September issue. In a recent post on Macworld's forums Jason Snell explained the change and assured readers that Macworld will continue to cover gaming in print as well as online. Although the dedicated Game Room column will no longer appear in the magazine, game reviews and news will show up in other sections.

As for the Game Room, we're making changes to the mix of content in the print magazine, as we often do, in order to find the best way to serve our readers in our 60 print editorial pages. As a result of reader feedback, we're slightly reducing the amount of games coverage in the printed edition of Macworld and ceasing, for now, the dedicated Game Room space in print. But Macworld magazine is most definitely _not_ dropping game coverage: The Game News section of Game Room will relocate to the Mac Beat section in the front of the magazine, and Peter's game reviews will continue to appear monthly in the Macworld Reviews section.

Online, our commitment to Game Room hasn't changed at all. Peter will continue to review the same number of games he does now as a part of his Game Room column on the Web, and will continue to cover news from the world of Mac gaming. A bit less of that material will make its way into the print magazine, but it will continue to be there online in complete and undiluted form.

These changes are in no way reflective of our view of the Mac gaming market and its health; in fact, online we find that our games coverage is incredibly well-read and well-received, and Peter is recognized as one of the most influential writers in the world of Mac gaming. But with extremely limited space for stories in our print edition, we often have to make tough decisions about changing the mixture of what stories get into our print edition.
