iShock Driver Issues in 10.3.8 8:54 AM | Ben Edwards | Comment on this story
Apple released Mac OS X 10.3.8 yesterday. While the upgrade has gone smooth for most people, some users have reported issues with rapidly disappearing hard drive space. Apparently Macally's iShock II driver has been filing large system error logs, in some cases as large as eight gigabytes or more, while at the same time using up to 50% of available processing power. Aspyr's Brad Oliver has posted a blog article concerning the error and how to solve it on his website. If you've got the iShock driver and are having this problem, you can find the driver in /Library/Application Support - just delete the "iShock*" files and you're good to go. Also, system.log lives in /var/log and your console.log file lives in /Library/Logs/Console/. If your log file is massive like mine was, don't try to view it in the Console app - it'll take forever - or at least longer than the minute or two I waited. ;-) For more information, check out Apple's support discussion forums.
