Mac Gamer HQ Reviews F1 2013 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
Mac Gamer HQ has posted a new review of F1 2013, the Mac version of Codemasters' racing sim. Brought to the Mac by Feral Interactive, the game offers the chance to experience "all the thrills of the 2013 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP" and, for the first time in Codemasters’ series, race classic cars on iconic circuits in a new game mode called F1 Classics. In this latest iteration of the F1 franchise, realism is taken to another level and hence you’re on the edge of your seat all the time. No longer can you pin the throttle coming out of the corners, even with all the assists switched on, the cars will slide. Fortunately the game gives you enough time to apply some opposite lock. The physics give you a taste of what a real formula 1 driver might feel but cuts you enough slack to let you have some fun.The brake assist has an additional mode to help you get used to the mechanics too. Along with the full braking assist mode, there’s a halfway version to help you ease into playing without any braking assist at all. Do keep in mind that even with the full brake assist, you still have to watch out as you may overshoot your braking point. One thing is for sure, arcade racing fans will probably not enjoy this sim gameplay style (at least you could still convert F1 2012 into an arcade racing game with all the assists turned on). The Red Solstice Seeking A Martian Kickstart 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
An IMG reader recently emailed us about a Kickstarter campaign to fund The Red Solstice. Ironward's new title is described as a squad based coop sci-fi strategy/RPG with a planned epic single player campaign. Set on Mars the game puts players in control of an elite marine task force sent to uncover the fate of a Martian colony. Currently planned for release on Windows machines, the developer hopes to offer Mac support at a later time if the funding campaign is successful. About the gameThe Red Solstice is a tactical 8 player co-op survival game set on Mars in the distant future. The game features hardcore survival and player interaction in dark science fiction setting. You will be able to select from one of the 8 classes, equip your marine out with your weapons of choice and co-operate with your team using advanced tactics to stay ahead of the enemy. The game is real time with a top-down perspective and features randomized map features (items, missions, monsters) allowing for good replayability for every mission playthrough which may last up to an hour or less depending on your team's capabilities. This is a tactical game that involves a lot of action and shooting at the same time but tread carefully, ammunition and medical supplies are not unlimited and lacking either will get you killed quickly, so you must constantly manage you resources and scavenge more if you have long term survival plans. As you play through your mission, the enemy swarms will get larger and harder to the point where you will be overwhelmed if you don’t deal with them. You must constantly be on the move looking to accomplish your main and side objectives, as doing so successfully will reward you with ranks and medals. Single player campaign Besides the 8-player coop core campaign in TRS we currently do have fundamental development and setup done for narrative focused single player campaign as well. It will definetly be a part of the game but we do need more funds to develop it as we originally intended, with enough details, emotion and flavor. If we manage to hit the needed stretch goals we will have enough to invest into developing a rich and epic story based single player campaign with great cutscenes. Story In the year 2060 the Earth was ravaged by a virus pandemic of a magnitude greater than the Bubonic plague. The virus spread quickly, those who were infected became something less human, willing carriers of the modern-day plague. Government action came too late, and as the chaos escalated corporate agencies rushed space programs in a desperate bid to evacuate the planet, since a cure could not be found. The fledgling colonies of Mars became humanity's last bastion, and since no traces of the virus was found among the lucky few who boarded the space vessels bound for the Red Planet, it was believed the danger had been averted. It is now the year 117 AE (After Earth) terraforming is well under way, however during an exceptionally violent storm dubbed The Red Solstice, communication lines between Tharsis, the colony referred to as The Capital and the remaining human settlements of Mars are disrupted. The Elysium Corporation deploys its elite marine task force to investigate what happened to the colony. Ironward is hoping to gather at least $50,000 before the Kickstarter campaign ends on April 20.Learn more at the link below.
