Omerta: City Of Gangsters Released
6:00 AM | IMG News | Comment on this story

Kalypso Media's Omerta – City of Gangsters is now available for purchase. The 1920’s-era gangster-themed game is designed by the team behind Tropico 3 and 4 and mixes conquest-style strategic play with tactical combat.

Omerta - City of Gangsters is a simulation game with tactical turn-based combat. Taking the role of a fresh-from-the-boat immigrant, with dreams of the big life, the player will work his way up the criminal hierarchy of 1920’s Atlantic City. Starting with small jobs, his character recruits a gang and expands his empire by taking territory from other gangsters. Eventually he establishes his own crime syndicate and becomes the de facto ruler of Atlantic City.

The player strategically manages his business and his minions in a real-time format, slowly but steadily increasing his influence over the city. The player sends his henchmen out on missions ranging from assassinating an informant, to raiding a warehouse, springing a friend from prison, robbing a bank or attacking a rival gang’s hideout. Nobody is above the law in Atlantic City, so it always helps to have a little cash handy to bribe a policeman or pay off a politician.

The turn-based combat in Omerta – City of Gangsters focuses on the tactical command of “The Boss” and his henchmen. Cover and stealth are essential parts of any shootout in the game. Finding the best vantage point to gun down an enemy, while taking cover from a hailstorm of bullets, can be just as satisfying as sneaking quietly behind a foe and taking him down.

Features:

  • Historically accurate representation of Atlantic City and its landmarks
  • Strategic gameplay allows city overview, planning, expansion and gathering of intel
  • Turn-based tactical combat with a cover system and stealth action
  • 15 unique player controlled characters each with unique personalities and backgrounds

Project Eternity: From Concept To Reality
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 18 comments

Obsidian Entertainment has released another new early development blog post focusing on the creation of its upcoming Project Eternity RPG. The post offers two images, one of the original concept art for a level, and the second one an in-game shot of the level populated with characters and enemies.

Project Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur's Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment.

Combat uses a tactical real-time with pause system - positioning your party and coordinating attacks and abilities is one of the keys to success. The world map is dotted with unique locations and wilderness ripe for exploration and questing. You'll create your own character and collect companions along the way - taking him or her not just through this story, but, with your continued support, through future adventures. You will engage in dialogues that are deep, and offer many choices to determine the fate of you and your party. ...and you'll experience a story that explores mature themes and presents you with complex, difficult choices to shape how your story plays out.

We are excited at this chance to create something new, yet reminiscent of those great games and we want you to be a part of it as well.

Hearthstone: Heroes Of Warcraft Status Update
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment recenty started accepting beta applications for Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. Planned for release "soon" on Mac, Windows, and iPad, the free-to-play virtual card game will allow players to build decks centered around one of the nine Warcraft character classes. Duelists will go head to head in card battles for the chance to win new cards.

Q: What is Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft?
A: Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a free-to-play digital collectible strategy card game that anyone can enjoy. Players choose one of nine epic Warcraft® heroes to play as, and then take turns playing cards from their customizable decks. Players are able to cast potent spells, use heroic weapons and abilities, or summon powerful characters to crush their opponent.

Q: Why is Blizzard making Hearthstone?
A: We looooooove collectible card games and have been playing them since our Silicon & Synapse days. Creating a digital strategy card game felt like a natural next step for us, so we put together a small team and have been hammering away at Hearthstone for a while now. This is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, and we’re excited to be working on something different from our other games. Same goes for creating a game for iPad in addition to PC. It’s been a thrill to work on Hearthstone, and we hope everyone has as much fun playing it as we’ve had building it.

Q: Do I need to know anything about card games or Warcraft to play?
A: Not at all! We’ve designed Hearthstone so that anyone can get into it, no matter how familiar they are with the Warcraft universe or collectible card games. The game will teach you everything you need to know as you play it.

SimCity August Release Too Late?
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 10 comments

Mac Gamer HQ recently posted a new editorial about the delayed Mac release of Electronic Arts' SimCity. EA recently announced the game would finally make its way to Apple computers on August 29.

EA and Maxis pretty much screwed everything up when they released SimCity for PC on March 5th, 2013: Full of bugs, server outages, the worst DRM ever seen and more. We talked about it then and hoped they would learn from their mistakes.

Obviously, they didn’t. Not only was SimCity for Mac delayed 2 times, but feedback to Mac gamers has been practically inexistent. Twitter user @GamingWoes and myself (among many others) have been harrasing EA and Maxis for months to get some information. The Result? nothing, most of the times complete silence. Talk about bad PR.

We all know how it works. Projects, products and launches get delayed, that’s life, I get it. However, delaying the game close to 3 times and not saying anything to your customers while still taking their money (enticing Mac gamers to pre-order the game)? Now that’s not right.
