The Sims 3: Dragon Valley Debuts May 30
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

EA recently announced a May 30 release date for The Sims 3: Dragon Valley, the newest digital world to join The Sims 3 franchise. Dragon Valley features a whole new environment for players to explore, including new locations, architecture, and even pet dragons. The mythical beasts can be used to boost moods and each has unique features. For example, the red baby dragon shoots fire and Sims players can use it to attack their enemies.

Welcome to Dragon Valley, a land of myth and fantasy. It’s been years since any adult dragons have terrorized this peaceful town but it’s not yet time to rest. The elven Sims of Dragon Valley are working to ensure that their military is up to par, their citizens are prepared for disaster, and that the scientific techniques they’ve used to keep the dragonlings small stay intact. The skies may be clear for now, but beneath the surface a conflict is brewing between the Mithrilen and O’Connell families for control of town. It’s tradition vs. progress; on which side will you stand?

Open Your Eyes!

You all walk around with dragons on your arms as pets. But don’t you see? We’re just recovering; we’ve finally rebuilt after the original Dragons ravaged our land.

The O’Connells “land” in our world with their way of taming dragons and we’ve been following them ever since! When it was we Mithrilens that used to keep the town safe!"

Don’t let them pull the wool over your eyes. Just look at the dragons. They are supposed to be “babies” but each one does something more dastardly than the last!

This will only end in misery. Let me help you. The Mithrilen family knows our ways, our traditions, and our bond with the land. Let me guide you to safety, before it’s too late.

The Mad Monk Of Wasteland 2
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

InXile Entertainment recently revealed a new portrait from the company's upcoming Wasteland 2 RPG. The art reveals a concept sketch of a Mad Monk, one of the many denizens of the wasteland. Much like its classic post-apocalyptic predecessor, the game will center around the exploits of a band of desert rangers struggling to keep order in a world recovering from disaster.

Wasteland 2 is the direct sequel to the first ever post-apocalyptic computer RPG. The original Wasteland was the inspiration for the FALLOUT series of games, and the first RPG to allow players to split parties for tactical considerations, to face players with moral choices, and to make them deal with the consequences of their actions. It was the first to provide far more than the one-key-for-one-lock style of puzzle solving. It was groundbreaking, which is why IGN named it one of the top 25 PC games of all time, Computer Gaming World named it the Adventure Game of the year in 1988, and it was short-listed for inclusion in the Smithsonian Institution’s current “Art of the Computer Game” exhibition.

Wasteland was set in a dangerous, post-apocalyptic world in the American Southwest. Over the course of adventures rangers would receive promotions, acquire new skills and equipment, then face new challenges with outcomes that changed depending on the strategy used to defeat them. The game featured a strong storyline which required painful decisions by players; and a storyline that allowed for maximum re-playability. Wasteland 2, with your participation and insights, will recapture all that and provide more. It'll finally be the game worthy to be a Wasteland sequel, as challenging and rewarding as the original, with all added capacity and dazzle of games today.

Wargame: European Escalation Reviewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Macworld recently posted a review of Focus Interactive's Wargame: European Escalation. The real time strategy war game puts players in command of over 350 different vehicles and units as the Cold War of the 80's escalates to World War III.

From the review:

The 3D graphics aren’t exactly state of the art, but they’re realistic and detailed enough to draw you into the action. The game also has one particularly impressive feature that it calls Iriszoom, which allows you to continuously zoom in or out using the scroll wheel on your mouse. When you’re planning your next move you can zoom out to get an overhead map view of the surrounding countryside. This will allow you to plan your strategy and take into account features of the terrain, such as a forest that might provide cover for your ground troops.

Then, with the flick of your mouse button, you can smoothly zoom in on the action, skimming over the treetops or going right down to ground level with your troops. This ability to zoom into the action so quickly helps to create a real sense of involvement that will keep you engaged throughout the single-player campaign. And, as you complete each mission, you also gain Command Points that count towards your ranking when you go online for the multiplayer mode.
