Insurgency Updates & Screenshots
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

New World Interactive recently unveiled some new features and screenshots showcasing the developer's progress in creating Insurgency, its upcoming tactical first-person shooter for Mac and Windows PCs. The new features added to the current "Early Access" build of the game, available to those who pre-purchase, include two new modes and expanded maps.

After the successful launch of its groundbreaking “Early Access” campaign, giving gamers a chance to be part of the development process with INSURGENCY, New World Interactive announced today new updates and screenshots illuminating the team’s progress tailoring its tactical first-person shooter to its fan base.

Following up with community feedback, new additions include:

  • Realism Mode: Players can filter the server browser to find matches with Realism mode, enabling gameplay settings that include friendly fire and exclude death messages and the killcam.
  • Co-operative Mode: Player-controlled security forces can hunt for AI insurgents in specially designed maps.
  • Expanded Maps: By popular demand, "Heights" is being experimented with to create a more expansive environment. Players will also see a new night version of the Siege map named "Contact."
INSURGENCY is a first-person team-based shooter for up to 32-plus players designed for Windows® PC and Mac OS X (and later on Linux), using Valve’s Source Engine and distributed through the Steam platform. If the name INSURGENCY sounds familiar, that’s because it’s based on the popular total conversion for Half-Life 2 - Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat -that saw more than a million free downloads and was awarded the ModDB “Player’s Choice Mod of the Year” in 2007.

BareFeats Expands Review Of Sapphire Radeon HD 7950
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story has released a third part of its benchmark testing of the Sapphire Radeon HD 7950. The tests provide a review of the card's performance versus some of the fastest GPUs available, using a variety of benchmarks including performance in Civilization V, StarCraft II, Diablo III, and X-Plane.

1. The first six graphs show OpenGL speed. Notice we sorted each graph with the fastest at the top and slowest at the bottom. The Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition wasn't the slowest or the fastest. It's best described as 'mid pack.'

2. Examining the five Pro Apps which use OpenCL and/or CUDA acceleration, the Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition was fastest in some cases and slowest in others. Hopefully a few driver tweaks will produce a more consistent picture of its potential.

Check out all the statistics, and read the two previous portions of the review at the links below.

Surprise OOTP 14 Features!

Every year we like to surprise you with some last-minute OOTP features, and this year is no different. Here's what we've added to the game during its final days of development:

  • Unlock plenty of performance-based Achievements! How many can you discover during your managerial career?
  • You can set a player to a "Not Interested" Trade Status, preventing the AI to offer this player to you again.
  • A Free Agent Draft can now be scheduled from the League Setup functions screen. It's similar to the inaugural draft, but it doesn't clear the team rosters and it assigns picked players adequate 1-year contracts. Such a draft is useful if, for example, you want to have contraction and draft the players released from the contracted teams. Or if you import several historical players into the FA pool and want the teams to draft them.
  • The new optional Font Size Setting allows you to adjust the interface to your liking.
