As you move through the ages, you’ll interact with new types of city-states, engage in new city-state quests and global competitions, and master exciting new systems for land and naval combat. Civilization V: Gods and Kings will also include nine new civilizations, nine new wonders, three original scenarios, and dozens of new units, buildings, and techs that will offer even more ways for players to expand their empire and dominate the world.

  • Expanded Epic Game: The core game experience has been greatly expanded with the addition of 9 new civilizations, new technologies, 27 new units, 13 new buildings, and 9 new Wonders.
  • Religion: A righteous people will seek out Faith to found a Pantheon of the Gods. As your Faith becomes stronger, you can cultivate Great Prophets who build on these simple beliefs to create a religion that you can customize and enhance as desired.
  • Enhanced Diplomacy and Espionage: Establish embassies at foreign courts for closer ties (or clandestine operations).
  • Naval Combat: Your navy is now split into two different ship types, melee and ranged. This means that no coastal city should be considered safe, and can now fall to a surprise naval attack.
  • World Domination: The fight for world domination is now more dynamic than ever before. The Gods and Kings expansion features a reworked combat system and AI that puts more emphasis on a balanced army composition.

Botanicula Reviewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Macworld has posted a new review of Amanita Design's point-and-click adventure, Botanicula. The game focuses on five unique characters on a mission to save the last seed of their home tree from infestation by evil parasites. To succeed players will have to rely on each of the five character's skills as they travel through the game's more than 150 locations.

From the review:

You’ll need patience to get into Botanicula, as there’s very little guidance given when you start. The game is set in a forest, delightfully rendered with hand-drawn graphics and atmospheric background noises. A brief introductory scene seems to suggest that one of the trees has been infected by some sort of creepy spider and you then take control of a group of five little seed-like creatures, who head off in search of various objects that will help them to save the tree.

The game follows the format of a point-and-click adventure, as you explore the forest landscape simply by waving your mouse cursor around the screen and watching to see what happens. Sometimes an arrow will point the way to your next location, or the cursor will turn into a hand, indicating that you can click on an object in order to use it in some way. One of your little seed creatures may be able to extend a branch across a gap in order to grab at something, while one of the larger seeds may be able to bulldoze its way past an obstacle for you.

StarCraft II: Heart Of The Swarm Units Revealed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has released some new information about the upcoming Heart of the Swarm expansion. Revealed at the MLG Spring Championship, the information includes videos, screenshots, and descriptions of some of the units currently in consideration for the expansion.

Heart of the Swarm is the first expansion set to Blizzard Entertainment’s sci-fi real time strategy game, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Heart of the Swarm continues the epic story from Wings of Liberty with an all-new campaign that focuses on Kerrigan, the erstwhile Queen of Blades. New multiplayer content will also be included in the expansion, as well as new features and upgrades to the online platform.

Heart of the Swarm’s campaign will include approximately 20 new missions. Players will be able to evolve their swarms with unique, campaign-only units and abilities, and this evolution will happen in an organic manner befitting of the expansion’s zerg theme. As an example, zerglings can be induced to evolve the ability to split into broodlings upon death. Further evolution can yield specialized sub-species of zerglings such as the swarmling, a variant that spawns three swarmlings per larvae instead of the standard two zerglings. The fearsome raptor is another evolutionary offshoot of the zergling that has more health, and the ability to leap short distances to quickly close the gap on an enemy.
