IMG Reviews Civ V: Wonders Of The Ancient World
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Sid Meier's Civilization V: Wonders of the Ancient World Scenario Pack. The downloadable content for the popular strategy game provides players with three new wonders to build and a new scenario to conquer.

Here's an excerpt:

The Mausoleum of Haicarnassus might look like something difficult to pronounce, and it is, but it is a lot more than just a trick question in a spelling bee. This monument provides extra gold to you as you construct the wonder itself, and work tiles containing marble and stone. This is a great addition to your empire if youíre aiming for dominance in terms of economics.

The Statue of Zeus is like the Ancient Greeks believed, a place to create confidence and pray for Greeks in war. This majestic God up in the mountains of Olympia was said to wield bolts of lightning against people he didnít like, and if you got on his good side he would offer rewards. In this case the rewards boost your civilization with an added bonus to attacking cities. If you sacrifice making a few units to build this statue it can provide a better military advantage in the long run.

StarCraft II: Heart Of The Swarm Multiplayer Details Update
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Blizzard Entertainment's Dustin Browser has released another developer update detailing plans for the upcoming Heart of the Swarm expansion for StarCraft II. The developer focused the discussion on what the StarCraft II team has planned for multiplayer action in the sci-fi real time strategy game.

Zerg are the most stable and largely unchanged since BlizzCon. The swarm host is still serving well as a zerg siege unit that can burrow and pressure the enemy from a distance (in a very zergy way), but the viper has some slightly different new abilities. In addition to Abduct, the viper also has the ability to blind biological units in an area of effect. Blinded units have their range reduced to 1. This is obviously effective against terran infantry as well as zerg roach and hydra armies.†The viper can also regain energy by feeding off of minerals. This locks up the mineral patch and prevents it from being harvested, so you want to use this ability away from your base.

We have decided to keep the overseer and make the viper a pure caster. We will be taking a look at the overseer to see what we can do to make his abilities more interesting.

We are also trying some additional abilities on the nydus network to allow you to spawn different types of nydus worms. The most interesting worms have been a worm that can spew creep across several screens to create a zerg assault highway, as well as a worm that attacks only enemy buildings, meant to be used as a ground-based zerg base raider.

6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has released some more new information to placate eager gamers awaiting the release of the action RPG sequel, Diablo III. This time the information takes the form of the first in a series of developer diary videos, and a character class trailer showcasing the burtal abilities of the Barbarian.

As the worldwide release of Diablo III on May 15 steadily approaches, we continue our in-depth look at the five heroes of Sanctuary with a complete revelation of the mighty barbarian on our Diablo III launch site. Delve into this comprehensive inquiry into the second of our five heroes to learn more about the "Children of Bul-Kathos."

The barbarians fulfilled their purpose with unwavering determination for centuries, dwelling in a pristine state of isolation. Anything that could lead toward distraction or weakness was pushed aside, including politics, magic, trade, and machinery. Tribes patrolling Mount Arreat brooked no intrusion from outsiders, without question or parley. It was a pure existence, a life committed to the sword, axe, spear, shield, and duty above all else.
