StarCraft II: Patch 1.5, A Step Toward Heart Of The Swarm
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment's Dustin Browder, StarCraft II game director, recently posted a new blog post detailing upcoming changes to the popular sci-fi real time strategy game. In the post the developer discussed some of the changes coming in the 1.5 update including arcade and custom game creation tools, and improvements in chat and game finding functions.

The upcoming 1.5 patch will be our most feature-laden patch to date. This patch represents the first steps towards the release of our first expansion for StarCraft II, Heart of the Swarm, and will include numerous upgrades and fixes throughout the game. One of the most significant additions will be the all new Arcade feature which includes improved custom game visibility, ratings, reviews, game instructions, screenshot support, and more. Patch 1.5 will also include significant improvements throughout the overall user interface, streaming support, antialiasing, editor and modding upgrades, new art tools, and more. We’ll go into further details about these features in future developer updates. In this update, I would like to provide some insight into the thinking and motivation behind a few of the upcoming changes.

Mists Of Pandaria Buffs And Debuffs Explained
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment's Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street, Lead Systems Designer for the company's popular World of Warcraft MMO recently posted a new blog about the design of the upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion. This time the developer focused on Blizzard's current plans for group buffs and debuffs.

Since the expansion is still in development, these updates represent a snapshot of where we are at any given moment and not a final design where we step back and say “Ladies and gentlemen, we have achieved perfection. Let us not change a thing.” If you’ve been playing the game for a while, you’ve probably realized by now that we never think we’ll hit perfection, and we probably never will.

One design that we haven’t focused on much yet is the plan for various group buffs and debuffs. Some specs have their buffs in place and some do not. Rather than trying to describe each omission, we thought we’d just dump the whole design on you here. As with the rest of the expansion’s systems, we’re not even in beta yet, so there’s plenty of time for things to change.
