IMG Reviews OIO
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Uncanny Games' OIO. Based on concepts from mythology and fairy tales, the game puts players in the role of a small wooden man awakened from petrified sleep to find himself in a strange universe and his companions petrified.

Here's an excerpt:

The graphics were amazing! For such a simple platformer OIO does not fail to impress. The artistic indie title vibe really fits well with the whole game. It doesn’t feel over the top and doesn’t sacrifice other elements. With fine details in the puddles and the great backdrop of the story happening around you, OIO shows great “all round” performance. The menu system itself is very handsome and easy to use. Also, with the instructions for controls projected on the floor, I can’t imagine anyone struggling to work out how to play the game.

Like the graphics the sound quality is superb. The sound effects were spot on. Everything made sense and there was no real disruption of the music going from level to level, just an ease into each scenario. The soundtrack itself was nothing short of fantastic as well. The menu gave a sort of electronic vibe, which was a little odd at first, but when I first started a new game it subtly changed into a piano ballad for the first cut scene, then into a combination of xylophones and water droplets. I can’t think of any other game which switches from so many genres so easily without missing a beat. Every song feels real and as if it is meant to be there. Nothing feels disjointed or obscure. It's a really well done sound track.

World Of Warcraft Patch 4.3 Released
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has released Patch 4.3, titled Hour of Twilight, for its popular MMO, World of Warcraft. The update includes a new raid, unexplored dungeons, a legendary rogue quest line, new raid tier armor sets, major developments in the Deathwing storyline, and the Transmogrification and Void Storage features.

In the wake of the Cataclysm, Azeroth’s champions rose up to thwart the forces of the maddened black Dragon Aspect, Deathwing. Thus far the world’s defenders have shattered the power base of the Twilight’s Hammer cult and defeated the raging elemental lords Al’Akir and Ragnaros. Yet despite these victories, as long as Deathwing is free to pursue his twisted goals, Azeroth will remain under threat.

No one is more aware of this fact than the great Dragon Aspects Alexstrasza, Nozdormu, Ysera, and Kalecgos. Together with the wise shaman Thrall, they have devised a plan to vanquish Deathwing with a weapon of his own design: the infamous Dragon Soul.

In patch 4.3, Thrall and the noble Aspects will call upon the Horde and the Alliance to help them retrieve the artifact–no longer in existence–from the distant past. Those brave enough to face the challenge will embark on a perilous journey from Azeroth’s apocalyptic End Time to the Dragon Soul’s point of origin during the catastrophic War of the Ancients. If the heroes succeed, an even more harrowing battle awaits them in the present….

6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment and Insight Editions have announced that Diablo III: Book of Cain will be available for purchase on December 13. Filled with illustrations from a variety of artists, the book will chronicle "the origins and history of the demon-plagued world of Sanctuary as told by the scholar Deckard Cain."

Blizzard Entertainment and Insight Editions announce the December 13, 2011 launch of Diablo® III: Book of Cain, a lavishly illustrated tome that chronicles the origins and history of the demon-plagued world of Sanctuary as told by the scholar Deckard Cain, one of the key characters in Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo universe. Filled with breathtaking art commissioned exclusively for the book by some of the world's most renowned fantasy artists, Book of Cain serves as Diablo players' ultimate guide to the dark mythology and sinister mysteries surrounding Sanctuary and the Eternal Conflict.

Designed to look like an in-world artifact from the Diablo universe, Book of Cain conveys the games' rich lore through an exciting first-person account. The story begins as Cain leaves his journal to his adopted daughter, Leah, passing along the tale of Sanctuary's creation and the eternal war that rages between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. Book of Cain chronicles the rise of the Zakarum, the traditions of the Horadrim, the genesis and geography of Sanctuary, and the key moments in the world's history-such as the destruction of Tristram-that set the stage for the events of Blizzard's upcoming action-RPG Diablo III. Containing dozens of sketches, Cain's footnotes, and a hand-drawn map of Sanctuary, this comprehensive tome promises to give readers a deeper understanding of the mysterious Diablo universe.

The English language version of Diablo III: Book Of Cain will sell for $35 (USD) on December 13. Localized versions for international markets will be released on February 7, 2012.
