6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Disney Interactive Studios recently announced the release of Disney•Pixar’s Cars 2: The Video Game for a variety of platforms including Mac. Inspired by the animated comedy adventure movie Cars 2, the game offers players the chance to take on dangerous missions, vie to become the fastest racecar in the world, and use newly acquired espionage skills in combat racing and battle arenas.

“We’ve developed a meaningful and creative partnership with Pixar that continues to result in video games that are an authentic and immersive experience for fans,” said John Blackburn, vice president and general manager of Avalanche Software. “We anticipate that Cars enthusiasts around the world will be compelled to become agents of C.H.R.O.M.E with the release of this new video game.”

In Cars 2: The Video Game, players enroll in an international spy training academy known as C.H.R.O.M.E. (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage). As part of their international training to become world class spies, players will participate in simulated daring missions using assorted high-tech gadgetry in their effort to outpace and slow down the competition, and ultimately become the world’s fastest racecar.

Fans will choose from more than 20 different characters to play, including classic favorites like Mater the tow truck and Lightning McQueen, along with new challengers, such as Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell. Fans will also recognize familiar voices while playing Cars 2: The Video Game with a celebrity voice cast including Larry the Cable Guy returning as Mater, Emily Mortimer as Holley Shiftwell, Tony Shalhoub reappearing as Luigi and John Turturro as Francesco Bernoulli. In addition, the endless action will take players beyond Radiator Springs to experience exotic locales across the globe including Tokyo, London and Italy.

The game supports up to four players in split-screen and features connectivity with the World of Cars Online, a free-to-play browser-based, virtual world tied to the hit Disney•Pixar animated Cars universe.

Cars 2: The Video Game was developed by Avalanche Software in collaboration with the filmmakers at Pixar Animation Studios.

Cars 2: The Video Game is available for PC/Mac for $29.99. Learn more at the link below.

The update also kicks off a new free-to-play option Blizzard has named World of Warcraft Starter Edition. Replacing the 10 and 14 day trial options, the starter edition will allow gamers to play the base game for free up to a maximum character level of 20.

Blizzard also revealed a new digital Battle Chest offering the original game and as well as the Burning Crusade expansion for $19.99 from Blizzard's online store. In addition, owners of World of Warcraft will receive all the content and features of the Burning Crusade expansion for free.

The second content update for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Rage of the Firelands (patch 4.2), is erupting across Azeroth. With a new raid, a legendary DPS staff quest line, the most diverse daily questing experience to date, PvP Season 10, user-interface enhancements such as the Dungeon Journal, and much more, Rage of the Firelands brings a little something for everyone.

We also thought your readers might be interested to know that the World of Warcraft trial has undergone a few big changes with the launch of today’s content update. Starting today, we’ve removed the previous 10- and 14-day trial time restrictions, and players who are interested in trying out World of Warcraft can now play the base game for free up to a maximum character level of 20, including draenei and blood elf characters – all they need is a account and an Internet connection. To mark the occasion, we’ve also given the trial a new name: World of Warcraft Starter Edition. Players who had previously signed up for 10- or 14-day trials will be able to hop back into the Starter Edition right where they left off.

In addition, for anyone who hasn’t yet ventured beyond the Dark Portal, beginning today, players will be able to get both the original World of Warcraft and the game’s first expansion set, The Burning Crusade, for only $19.99 as part of the new digital Battle Chest now available in the online Blizzard Store. In addition, anyone who owns the original World of Warcraft, regardless of when they purchased the game, will automatically be able to access all of the content and features from The Burning Crusade expansion at no additional cost.

Din's Curse: Demon War Reviewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Gametactics has posted a new review of Demon War, the expansion for Soldak Entertainment's action RPG, Din's Curse. Demon War expands the number of class combinations to 196, introduces the new Demon Hunter class, and adds a variety of new creatures, quests, environments and modifiers to the main game. Gametactics gave the game a score of 8 out of 10.

From the review:

One of the biggest additions to the game is a whole new class, Demon Hunter, which is like a combination of a warrior and warlock. Demon Hunters can deal serious damage, area damage, they can tank, cast spells, take control of demons and even turn into a demon. It is a cool new unique class that isn’t too powerful and unbalances the game. Along with the class it comes with 3 new specialties, like talent trees in other RPGs, bringing the total number of possible class combinations in the game up to 196.
In addition to the new class they’ve also added a lot of new advanced options for characters and world modifiers. There are some really cool new advanced character options that were added to the game, one for example is the option Only Hope which means if a player dies then their town is lost and they must start over again in a new town. Prima Donna characters will only use the best equipment such as elite, artifact and legendary items and the Poverty option has characters find less money and items. These character options can be check marked so any combination of the 13 options you could imagine can be active at one time. There are also new advanced options for the world you character plays in that changes things from the world’s size to its and the NPCs pacing. There are also options that make monsters more dangerous but less in numbers and vice versa.
