Duke Nukem Forever Coming To Macs This August

Aspyr Media has announced that Duke Nukem Forever will officially make its way to the Macintosh in August.  Published in partnership with 2K Games, Duke Nukem will "bring his signature brand of ass-kicking, cigar-smoking, beer-chugging and babe-lovin’ action as he once again saves the Earth and our babes from hordes of invading aliens."

"We are thrilled to play a part in bringing this gaming experience to the Mac,” said Michael Rogers, President of Aspyr Media. “Duke Nukem Forever represents many of the best aspects of gaming: shooting aliens, saving ladies in distress, and great tag-lines. We think Mac gamers will love taking a bite of Duke’s special pain cake.”

Apologizing to no one, Duke Nukem Forever is the high-octane video game equivalent of a Hollywood summer blockbuster. Starring the legendary lady killer and alien slayer, Duke Nukem Forever brings gamers back to a blastastic time when games were filled with head-popping, bone-rattling action, brazenly crude humor, impossibly statuesque women dying for affection, and catchy one-liners.

Put on your sunglasses and prepare to step into the boots of Duke Nukem, whose legend has reached epic proportions in the years since his last adventure. The alien hordes are back and only Duke can save the world, again. Pig cops, alien shrink rays and enormous alien bosses won’t stop our hero from accomplishing his one and only goal: to save the world, save the babes and to be a bad-ass while doing it. The King of All Shooters is back with over-the-top weapons,massive aliens and unprecedented levels of interactivity. This game puts pedal to the metal and tongue firmly in cheek. Shoot hoops, lift weights, read adult magazines, draw crude messages on whiteboards or ogle one of the many beautiful women that populate Duke’s life; that is if you can pull yourself away long enough from kicking ass and taking names.

Back To The Future Episode 5 Reviewed

IGN has posted a new review of the fifth and final episode of Telltale Games' Back to the Future: The Game series. Titled Outatime, the episode wraps up the threads created in the previous four episodes and provides a variety of new puzzles to solve.

If you're just joining the time traveling fun, Back to the Future: The Game is a point and click adventure. You play as Marty McFly and walk through Hill Valley -- at various points in the time stream -- talking to people, driving the DeLorean and using objects to solve puzzles. The trouble begins when Doc goes back in time, gets arrested, and Marty bails him out. Those actions screwed up the course of history and Marty & Doc have been trying to set it right ever since.

Back to the Future: The Game -- Episode 5: OUTATIME is the finale of all that, and it's an enjoyable ride if you're looking for clever dialogue and funny moments. The puzzles -- such as getting a confession out of a crook, tricking an old lady and tweaking the time machine -- are easy, but I don't mind that as the story is the star. After all, I don't play this game to stare at a dialogue tree and figure out how to trip up a young Doc Brown, I play because I want to know how Telltale is going to wrap up the insanity it has created. What's going to happen with Doc and Edna? How will Marty get home?

City Of Heroes Freedom Discussed

In a new blog post Paragon Studios' Matt Miller discussed the company's reasons for jumping on the Free-to-Play bandwagon with the upcoming City of Heroes: Freedom update for the long running super hero themed MMO. Among other things Miller discussed Paragon's focus on avoiding pitfalls of other F2P models and ensuring that veteran subscribers are not discouraged by the influx of new players.

We also looked closely at other games that have adopted similar business models before us and adapted our strategies to avoid some of the more glaring pitfalls we have perceived. We closely followed forum threads that complained about "this" and "that" and did everything in our power to ensure that when City of Heroes Freedom launches, players will no longer have those things to complain about. Two examples I can give are the new VIP-Only server, where subscribers can play without non-paying players simply because we saw that as an oft-requested feature, and the ability to return as a Free player and create a brand new character, not be forced in reactivating (or worse deleting) old characters that are still on your account.

Finally we recognized that there are a large number of returning players who have already invested some of their time and money into City of Heroes. We wanted to ensure that those players didn't feel like they were restarting from the ground floor, that their previous time with us was honored and worth something in the larger scheme of things. To this end, we modeled the Paragon Rewards program around our current Veteran Rewards program and this enabled us to give returning players perks for their previous time commitment, even if they are coming back as a Free player. In addition, we ensured that everything they might have purchased previously, like character slots or Super-boosters, remained on their account, even if they stay as a Free player. If you earned it or paid money for it, you can still get it.
