DiRT 2 Coming To Macs July 21 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 4 comments
Feral Interactive has announced Thursday, July 21st as the shipping date for Colin McRae: DiRT2, a new off-road racing simulator. The game features nine locations across the globe, a career mode and a line-up of super-charged speed machines. In North America the game will be published as DiRT 2. “DiRT 2 is an utterly compelling experience,” said David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive. “For fans of racing games – the Mac just got a lot more interesting.” With more than 100 separate race events DiRT 2 puts players behind the wheel for a world tour that combines sublime handling, gorgeous visuals and dynamic competition in eight different racing disciplines. From the mud-soaked Malaysian rainforest to the open desert roads of Morocco and on to the rain-slick streets of Tokyo, racers compete in a variety of contemporary sports racing styles including three special ESPN X Games. Additionally, DiRT 2 lets players experience intense multi-car and solo races in head-to-head competitive online play. A premiere collection of officially licensed rally cars and off-road vehicles such as the Mitsubishi EVO X, the Subaru Impreza STI, and the Colin McRae R4 are ready and waiting to race. All the vehicles can be set-up to suit the driver’s experience and racing style and with variable difficulty levels the game can be tailored to suit the skills of the individual. When you’re pushing it mistakes will happen, but with DiRT 2 players can get a second bite at the cherry. The game’s 'Flashback' feature allows racers to repeat the last few seconds of their drive and get the chance to correct the mistake that may have cost them dearly. Minimum system requirements call for a 1.4GHz Intel Mac with at least 2GB RAM, 128MB or better graphics card, and Mac OS X v10.6.7 or later. The following graphics cards are NOT supported: NVIDIA 7xxx series and Intel GMA series. DiRT 2 for the Mac will retail in North America for US $39.99, £24.95 (inc. VAT) in the UK and €29.95 (inc. VAT) throughout Europe. It will also be available online for direct download from a variety of digital partner sites.

Chronicles Of Riddick Reviewed 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
OneClickMac recently posted a new review of The Chronicles Of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena from Virtual Programming. The game features the Riddick movie character in two adventures: the Assault on Dark Athena campaign and an enhanced version of the original Escape from Butcher Bay. From the review: I have got to hand it to these guys, the stealth in this game is intense and really, really tricky if you’re looking for that perfect run. Crouching puts you into stealth mode. If you’re in a dark area then you are basically invisible. However, in the light you will be seen, eventually. Nearer the middle of the game, you procure a tranquilliser gun which can seem like a bit of a cop out when you can just neutralise enemies for a short while. But by far its most beneficial use if you decide to opt for the more strategic route is that it can take out light sources, like overhead-lights. Obviously, short-circuiting lights is going to draw some attention so make sure you’re well hidden when you do so. But what this does to the difficulty does wonders for the game’s longevity as well. If you’re one of those people that always wants to do everything perfectly (like me), then you will find yourself coming back to missions you scuffed up to get that seamlessly silent run.
