Soldak Entertainment has released more new information about the upcoming Demon War expansion for its lastest action RPG, Din's Curse. The update features three new additions to the creature list with the unveiling of the Rylor, Rylor Bull, and Winged Rylor.

Rylor (Demon War expansion)

The grim rylor attack with timed bombs, obliterating enemies without qualm. Being of a fire nature, Rylors hate the cold. Though cultured in their own fashion, they tend to retain a nasty disposition and only respect power.

Special Abilities: Timed Bomb and Elemental Imbued based on type
Variants: Magma Rylor (shown), Frost Rylor, Shock Rylor, Toxic Rylor, and Arcane Rylor

Inside Mac Games Holiday Q&A: Aspyr Media
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 14 comments

The third installment of Inside Mac Games' Holiday Season Q&A series features Aspyr Media's Elizabeth Howard. The Director of Digital Publishing and Business Development shared her thoughts on the state of Mac gaming, native ports, DRM and her favorite games.

A snippet from the interview:

JC: Do you believe DRM really protects against pirates, or does it just make it more difficult for legitimate customers who have to deal with all the measures that pirates simply bypass? Is there such a thing as "ideal" or "balanced" DRM?

EH: DRM is always a controversial subject. For Aspyr, we don't always have control over whether there is DRM or what it is. It is our job to help our customers play the games they bought easily.

Today, there's no perfect system, but I do believe it's getting better. At least you don't have to answer a question from the manual every time you play. At gameagent.com, most games don't have any outside requirement to play the game (Steam games do require an internet connection to authorize), just download and play. We are working hard to get better DRM for our customers.

Creating Gear For World Of Warcraft
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has released a new developer blog from lead systems designer, Greg Street. The developer discussed how his team decides which stats to add to gear in World of Warcraft and the difference between Primary and Secondary item stats in the game.

We hope that secondary stats overall are just more interesting than the primaries. While Strength or Agility will make you always hit a little harder, critical strike rating makes you sometimes hit a lot harder. Haste lets you do more (whether its providing resources for melee or speeding up caster spells). Mastery makes you better at what you do. We want your choice of secondary start to mix up your playstyle, if only a little. Unlike primary stats, we want those secondary stats to be a choice. If one is far better or far worse than the others, then we haven't delivered on our design intent. Since some of our players have become such great rules lawyers, I am hesitant to mention a magic number at which point the ratios become unacceptable to us. Letís just say you shouldn't often be in a situation where you pass on an item in a later tier of content and keep an item from an earlier tier solely because of the stat allocation. As an example, if haste were so much better than crit for an Enhance shaman that he kept his Blackwing Descent (first tier) gear and dismissed all of the Firelands (second tier) loot as garbage simply because it had a lot of crit, then we have a problem. (We're less offended if great trinkets or set bonuses sometimes outlive their tier.)
