Terra Militaris Enters Open Beta Phase

Gala Networks Europe, a publisher of free-to-play online games, has announced an open beta test for Terra Militaris, its upcoming browser-based real-time strategy MMO. Developed by Snail Game, the title will combine historical MMORTS gameplay with high-end Flash graphics and will be fully playable on both PC and Mac formats.

The time has come for players to build their own empire by choosing one of the four great ancient civilisations; Rome, Egypt, Persia and China and evolve through five different eras, from primitive times to an era of trade and into the imperial era. By developing knowledge in many different strategic fields, building powerful armies and forging mighty alliances the players will get closer to achieving the ultimate goal: becoming the ruler of the world.

Combining historical MMORTS game play with high-end Flash graphics, Terra Militaris is ready to set a new standard for browser games. Playable without any downloads or subscription fees on both PC and Mac formats, Terra Militaris brings a new gaming experience to European players.

Terra Militaris is available as an open beta, on the games portal, with no download or subscription fee required. To play the game, users only have to log-in at the official website, using their favourite PC or Mac web browser, and can jump into the game in seconds.

Dhaila's Adventures Trailer Unveiled

Wild Games Studio has released a trailer for its open-ended RPG/adventure game Dhaila's Adventures. The third person adventure will follow the story of a young fairy seeking her destiny and will be available for Mac, Windows PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Wild Games Studio Inc. announces the development of our first trailer, featuring Dhaila, a young girl and her extraordinary powers. She can absorb the DNA of other creatures, making the heroin able to acquire it”s shape at any time.This is the first of 2 trailers that follow and form a story.

The story is set in the fantasy world of Martania. Dysan the tyrant forces the people into submission and forces them to work through the influence he has over all the dragons in the territory. Extracting from Dysan the precious stones of the mines to enhance his magical skills, the people are unwillingly witnessing the gain of magical powers of the tyrant. The resistance have more difficulty to protect their valleys from Dysan dragons. Here, Dhaila comes into scene.

Quake Live Update Adds New Maps

id Software recently announced a new update for Quake Live, the company's browser based first person shooter. Among other things the update includes four new arena maps, chat tokens, and FreezeTag adjustments. Based on the Quake III engine, the game challenges players to master their shooting and dodging skills as they battle with others.

Premium Maps Added:
    Finnegan’s (CTF):
    Another classic CTF arena from the earliest days of Threewave and our friends "Casey" and "Zoid." Like ‘Bloodlust’ and ‘Courtyard’, Finnegan’s was originally created and released in late 1999 as part of a 3-pack of CTF maps for the original QUAKE III Arena. Finnegan’s is the smallest of the three maps, designed for 8-10 players. This level provides fast paced action through well crafted tight hallway routes that run both high and low between two fog-pit protected flag rooms. This arena has been a long-time highly requested favorite, and welcome its addition to the QUAKE LIVE CTF arena rotation with open glowing arms.
    Gothic Rage (DUEL):
    This dreary three story gothic abode encourages close range combat as players spiral about its three atriums and narrow corridors. Great for Duel, Free for All, and small team-play, Gothic Rage is reminiscent of original old-school Quake deathmatch arenas.
    Solid (2v2 TDM):
    Originally designed for fast and fun 2v2 matches, this Challenge ProMode Arena classic by “swelt” also offers some great opportunities for cat-and-mouse style Duels. Highly adaptive to varying gameplay styles, we expect this ‘solid’ piece of work to shine in 2v2 Team Deathmatch, Duel, Freeze Tag and Clan Arena.
    Window Pain (Small CA):
    This small Rocket Arena 3 level crafted by Adam Bellefeuille is a sibling to the recently released map, ‘Somewhat Damaged’. In Window Pain, 2-6 players fight for map control as they are partially separated by two retractable panes of glass in this simple but elegant two-room design. A favorite amongst many RA3 Duel Arena fans, we look forward to bringing this classic back to life.

City Of Heroes Dev Diary: Creating A Task Force

Massively has posted a new dev diary from Sean McCann, a developer working on new content for Paragon Studios' super hero themed MMO, City of Heroes. The post includes information about the new task forces featured in the upcoming Issue 19: Alpha Strike expansion for the game.

With the upcoming Issue 19, City of Heroes is bringing in the long-awaited Incarnate system, the first step in improving and honing the powers of characters who have already reached the level cap. Of course, that would be rather unbalancing if there wasn't something new to challenge the newly-empowered characters, but the whole invasion of Praetoria into Paragon City and the Rogue Isles should give even the new Incarnates something challenging to handle. Two task forces are being added to challenge characters that have reached the apex of power.

So how exactly does one craft a new invasion in City of Heroes? We were lucky to get a brand-new developer diary from Sean "Dr. Aeon" McCann detailing how the Apex and Tin Mage task forces came into existence, from the challenges it presented in design to the result of all that hard work. Take a look past the cut to check out the diary, wherein we get a full rundown of how one launches an interdimensional war. (In the game, at least. Actual aggression against other dimensions is not covered.)
