Assassin's Creed 2: Deluxe Edition Now Available
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 35 comments

Ubisoft's Assassin’s Creed 2: Digital Deluxe Edition is now available for Mac. The Deluxe Edition includes Assassin's Creed 2, an epic story of vengeance in Renaissance Italy, as well as three bonus maps to explore for hidden treasures: Palazzo Medici, Santa Maria Dei Frari, and the Arsenal Shipyard.

Assassin’s Creed 2 is the follow-up to the title that became the fastest-selling new IP in video game history. The highly anticipated title features a new hero, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Italian noble, and a new era, the Renaissance.

Assassin’s Creed 2 retains the core gameplay experience that made the first opus a resounding success and features new experiences that will surprise and challenge players.

Assassin’s Creed 2 is an epic story of family, vengeance and conspiracy set in the pristine, yet brutal, backdrop of a Renaissance Italy. Ezio befriends Leonardo da Vinci, takes on Florence’s most powerful families and ventures throughout the canals of Venice where he learns to become a master assassin.

Features:

  • EZIO, A NEW ASSASSIN FOR A NEW ERA: Ezio Auditore da Firenze is a young Italian noble who will learn the ways of the assassins after his family was betrayed and he looks to seek vengeance. He is a lady’s man, a free soul with panache yet has a very human side to his personality. Through him, you become a master assassin.
  • RENAISSANCE ITALY: Italy in the 15th century was less a country and more a collection of city-states where families with political and economic strength began to take leadership roles in cities like Florence and Venice. This journey through some of the most beautiful cities in the world takes place in a time in history where culture and art were born alongside some of the most chilling stories of corruption, greed and murder.
  • A NEW-FOUND FREEDOM: You will be able to perform missions when you want and how you want in this open-ended world that brings back free-running and adds elements such as swimming and even flying to the adventure. The variety in gameplay adds another layer for you to truly play through the game any way you choose.
  • DYNAMIC CROWD: Discover a living, breathing world where every character is an opportunity for the player. Blending in with the crowd is easier, working with in-game characters provide ample rewards but can also lead to surprising consequences.
  • BECOME A MASTER ASSASSIN: Perfect your skills to become a master assassin where you brandish new weapons, learn to disarm enemies then use their weapons against them, and assassinate enemies using both hidden blades.
System Requirements:
  • Mac OS X 10.5 / Mac OS X 10.6
  • PROCESSOR: Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz

World Of Warcraft: Cataclysm Coming December 7
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the third expansion for the popular MMO, will be released starting on December 7, 2010. The expansion will be available on DVD-ROM for Mac and Windows PCs and will also be offered as a digital download. A special collector’s edition featuring bonus items will be available exclusively in retail stores.

"Cataclysm includes the best content we've ever created for World of Warcraft. It’s not just an expansion but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth, complete with epic new high-level adventures for current players and a redesigned leveling experience for those just starting out," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With the help of our beta testers we're putting on the final polish, and we look forward to welcoming gamers around the world to enjoy it in just a couple of months."

The first two World of Warcraft expansions, The Burning Crusade® and Wrath of the Lich King®, each shattered PC game sales records upon their release.* In Cataclysm, the face of Azeroth will be forever altered by the return of the corrupted Dragon Aspect Deathwing. Players will explore once-familiar areas of the world that have now been reshaped by the devastation and filled with new adventures. In an effort to survive the planet-shattering cataclysm, two new playable races - worgen and goblins - will join the struggle between the Alliance and the Horde. As players journey to the new level cap of 85, they'll discover newly revealed locations, acquire new levels of power and come face to face with Deathwing in a battle to determine the fate of the world.
The beta test for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is currently underway. To learn more check out the links below.

Hordes Of Orcs 2 Invades A Computer Near You
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 7 comments

Freeverse has announced the release of Hordes of Orcs 2 for Mac OS X and Windows. Developed by MrJoy and published by Freeverse, the sequel follows the events which occur after "The Glowing Portal of Really Bad Things That We Should Have Bricked-Up a Long Time Ago" has been foolishly un-bricked again, and the Orcs return. Hordes of Orcs 2 features an upgraded arsenal, new enemy units, improved AI, and six different game modes.

Defend your castle from destruction by strategically building walls to redirect the flow of the onslaught, and then spend your money on the right combination of defense towers to defeat the attacking forces. Choose carefully from Arrow Towers, Radiation Towers, Fire Towers and the all-new Railgun Tower, as each enemy has different tolerances. And donÇt forget to use your handy spells: casting Fog will slow them down, Weaken inflicts damage to all enemies, Bait will distract the Orcs with an irresistible basket of shitake mushrooms and dung, and Teleport will transport enemies back to the Portal from whence they came. But if 20 Orcs make it into your castle, it's game over -- you are toast!

It's an action game of strategy, cunning, and resource management, with six different challenging game modes in which to do battle. The Orcs are hungry -- can you stop the Hordes?

FEATURES INCLUDE:
New Enemy Units: Introducing the Skeleton; these fearsome foes look good in skinny jeans and are impervious to Arrow Towers

Upgraded Arsenal: Unleash the latest in anti-Orc weaponry, the slow but deadly Railgun. It's capable of firing a powerful straight blast that decimates everything in its path

Deadlier AI: More difficult patterns of enemies and mixed assortments of foes will keep you scrambling to improve and adjust your strategy

Enhanced Graphics and Improved Interface: Featuring an updated user interface for better navigation, and enhanced lighting and particle effects for stunning Orc negating goodness

Six Different Game Modes: From learning the ropes in Open Warfare, to protecting your treasure in Capture the Flag, or sticking to the path with Maze Defense, there are 6 unique scenarios to do battle, offering countless hours of entertainment.

DRM Free: In true independent developer form, Freeverse is proud to offer this game for sale, free of any pesky DRM fiddly bits
Hordes of Orcs 2 is availble for $19.95. Head over to the page below to learn more.

OnLive has announced that it has eliminated ongoing base monthly fees for access to the OnLive Game Service. OnLive has been waiving first-year base monthly fees since its launch last summer while it grew its base of users and tracked actual operating costs. “We’re delighted to be able to offer the OnLive Game Service without a base monthly fee on an ongoing basis,” said Steve Perlman, founder and CEO of OnLive, Inc. “There is no precedent for OnLive, so we had to grow to a large number of active users in order to assess usage patterns and operating costs. This opens the door to any gamer seeking instant top-tier game demos, or even just people interested in spectating high-performance live gameplay in the OnLive Arena. Come one, come all.”

OnLive is kicking off this change with the introduction of its Free Trial program for new users to its service, which offers access to the game service in just seconds, with no credit card required to create an account. “The Free Trial program is an instant sign-up path to instant high-performance gaming and community,” added Mike McGarvey, OnLive’s COO. “Since OnLive works on almost any PC or Mac, in no time at all you can be checking out the latest top-tier games for free. Whether you just want to demo a game, or you want to participate in the OnLive community, the Free Trial program is a seamless, hassle-free way to stay on top of the latest in gaming. With OnLive you Just Play.”

In addition to providing free demos and community, OnLive offers purchase of 3-day, 5-day and Full PlayPasses for its catalog of games on an a la carte basis, each of which is accessible without monthly fee for the term of the PlayPass. To sign up or learn more about OnLive’s Free Trial program, visit https://www.onlive.com/go/signup.
