Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction Coming To Macs
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 5 comments

In a recent financial press release Ubisoft revealed that Assassin's Creed 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction would both be making their way to Mac users. AC2 puts players in the role of assassin Ezio in the time of the Italian Renaissance, while SC:C returns players to the role of Sam Fisher on a mission to uncover his past and prevent a terrorist plot.

Assassin's Creed 2:
Get ready to plunge into the lush and deadly world of the Italian Renaissance, an era of arts, riches and murderous conspiracy. Assassin's Creed II introduces you to Ezio, a new assassin carrying on the deadly lineage of his forebears. Confront an epic tale of power and corruption as you hone your assassin's art, wielding weapons and instruments designed by the legendary Leonardo da Vinci himself in this gripping and deadly sequel.

Key Game Features:
  • Explore the deadly, shadowed world of the assassin with new assassin Ezio
  • Roam freely through the lush and dangerous world of Renaissance-era Italy
  • Do whatever it takes to complete your missions in the game's all-new open world and mission structure
  • Thrive in an environment rich with power, revenge and conspiracy
  • Practice your assassin's art with all-new weapons and instruments created by Leonardo da Vinci
Splinter Cell: Conviction
A few years have passed since the cliff hanger conclusion of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, in which Agent Sam Fisher undertook a particularly dirty mission, full of questionable actions, in the shadow of the inexplicable and unmourned death of his daughter. Fisher is now a renegade operative digging into the events of the past and he doesn't like what he has found. His personal investigation into his daughter's death reveals that he's been betrayed by his former agency, the Third Echelon. The agency responds by pursuing him, but as he works to elude them he becomes aware of a deadly terrorist plot that threatens millions. He is uniquely positioned and prepared to act against this, but success is doubtful without the help of former friends from the Third Echelon team, resulting in a series of life and death situations for himself and the country where trust can by no means be assumed.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, as with all games in the Splinter Cell series, is a tactical stealth-action game. In single player modes players take on the role of Sam Fisher and engage in a series of missions utilizing high-tech weaponry, gadgets, lethal hand-to-hand combat and interrogation skills. Overall objectives and the necessary steps to achieve them are challenging, yet always clear via dual verbal and visual expression that seamlessly alerts players as they progress through missions. In addition, Conviction enhances the world of stealth combat that has made the Splinter Cell franchise a runaway hit for years through a series of revolutionary new gameplay features.
Both titles are scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2010, meaning gamers will have the chance to experience both titles before the end of September.

Gratuitous Space Battles For Mac Nearing Completion
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 3 comments

Positech Games recently revealed that the Mac version of its space battle simulation, Gratuitious Space Battles, is receiving "final touches" and should be available soon. The game focuses on spectacular space battles, allowing players to design ships, arrange them into fleets, and jump right into the action. GSB features single and multiplayer combat as well as a survival mode.

GSB is from UK indie developer 'Positech Games'. It's a strategy / management / simulation game that does away with all the base building and delays and gets straight to the meat and potatoes of science-fiction games : The big space battles fought by huge spaceships with tons of laser beams and things going 'zap!', 'ka-boom!' and 'ka-pow!'. In GSB you put your ships together from modular components, arrange them into fleets, give your ships orders of engagement and then hope they emerge victorious from battle (or at least blow to bits in aesthetically pleasing ways).

Gratuitous Space Battles aims to bring the over-the-top explodiness back into space games. The game is for everyone who has watched big space armadas battle it out on TV and thought to themselves 'I could have done a much better job as admiral'. This is not a game of real-time arcade twitch reflexes. GSB is about what ships you design, and what you tell them to do. Your individual ship commanders have total autonomy during the chaotic battle that unfolds. This is not a tactical game, it is a strategic one. These gratuitous space battles are not won by plucky heroes with perfect teeth, but by the geeky starship builders who know exactly what ratio of plasma-cannons to engines each ship in the fleet will need.

GSB has both a singleplayer mode, and a cunning 'asynchronous' multiplayer mode, where you upload a 'challenge' containing your fleet (complete with your custom ship designs and each ships orders of engagement) either to openly challenge all other GSB players, or aimed at a specific player you know. The game has a challenge browser (see screenshot below) and history which shows you who accepted your challenge, and whether they won or lost, and players can rank each others fleets for both fun and difficulty.

If fighting against a fixed fleet of enemy ships (either the default game missions in three difficulties, or player-made challenges) isn't your thing, then GSB also has two 'survival mode' maps. In these battles, your fleet is helplessly outnumbered by wave after wave of enemies that warp in and attack you. Your fleets final defeat is certain, but how many enemy ships will you blast to atoms before you go down with your ship? Check out the scores to see how other players have fared.

Winter Wolves has officially announced its upcoming game Vera Blanc: Ghost in the Castle, the second title in the mystery adventure series. Episodes follow Vera and Brandon, her paranormal detective partner, as they investigate cases involving supernatural creatures like werewolves, vampires, zombies, and ghosts.

Iíve already uploaded two teasing videos on youtube (you see one above) and now Iím officially announcing the next episode of Vera Blanc, called Ghost In The Castle, that will be released this fall, probably in September. The game story is being proofreaded/edited, so all is need after that is some testing and reviewing the plot to be sure that there arenít big mistakes (plot holes and such). As you can see from the video, thereís a new comic artist for this game, Ricardo Mendez from a Brazilian comic studio.

This time, Vera and Brandon are investigating a mysterious ghost that is haunting a castle in a town in the middle of the Italian countryside. A local famous businessman, Roberto Anastasi, wants Vera to solve the ghost problem, because he doesnít want the town filled by tourists. The first day seems to be rather quiet and relaxing, but as soon as the night comes, Vera will have a short encounter with the ghost! A short chase in the woods that ends up in an opening and a man hanged on a tree!

Stay tuned for more details and a more accurate release date for the game.
