Eschalon: Book I Update Fixes Glitches For OS 10.6.3 Users

Basilisk Games has released an update for the Mac version of Eschalon: Book I, the first in its series of fantasy role playing games. The new release fixes graphics glitches experienced by Mac gamers using OS 10.6.3.

Weíve just uploaded a newly compiled edition of Eschalon: Book I for the Mac. The game is still at version number 1.05 and nothing about it has changed, however if you are running MacOS 10.6.3 or higher and you are experiencing glitchy graphics, this new compile should fix the problem for you.

If you are not experiencing any graphic anomalies, this new version offers NO CHANGES from what you currently are running.

LEGO Universe Mac Beta Beginning Soon

In recent email to beta testers LEGO announced the closed beta of the Mac version of the upcoming LEGO Universe MMO will soon be available. Universe will allow gamers to create their own custom LEGO minifigure and venture forth to combat the Maelstrom, join with friends to complete missions, and collect bricks to build imaginative creations.

ďOur developers are also working hard to get the Closed-Beta ready for Mac, and our Closed-Beta testers in Germany can look forward to a German version coming soon. Stay tuned for more info about the Closed-Beta missions and the latest updates on the Beta Center.Ē

Two Worlds II Previewed

GameBanshee recently published a new preview of Two Worlds II, the upcoming fantasy RPG from TopWare Interactive and Reality Pump. The game will send players to the unexplored land of Eastern Antaloor and will feature detailed graphics, an active combat system, and a complex storyline.

James also talked a bit about the "DEMONS" magic system and the ridiculous number of combinations we'll be able to employ by interchanging our spell cards. The current count is 13.4 million spell combinations - a number that has raised some eyebrows over at the Guinness Book of World Records, and just might wind up being penciled in as an official video game record. Dabbling in these card-swapping mechanics will allow you to add additional variables, effects, and parameters to your spells, with as many as four different cards being combined at once. For example, a standard firebolt card can be boosted with other cards so that it unleashes multiple projectiles that bounce off any inanimate object they meet. It's an intriguing system, and just might be enough to get me to play a mage on my first play-through.

Two Worlds II will once again employ a few multiplayer modes (all supporting up to eight players), including a separate set of co-op quests, a PvP mode (with free-for-all and team support), some kind of survival/last stand mode, and a unique "village mode". This last mode will actually be something of a city-building metagame, as it will have you setting up trade routes with other players to transport goods between your villages (one player might specialize in armor and another in weapons, for example). James tells me that we'll be tasked with as many as forty different quests in this mode, with one example being the defense of the village against an orc attack. Unfortunately, we cannot use our single player character in any of these modes - the game's multiplayer component will require us to create a separate character.

Din's Curse Reviewed

Alternative Magazine Online has posted a new review of Soldak Entertainment's Din's Curse. In the game players take the role of an adventurer cursed to walk the lands in a quest for redemption. The game features 141 possible class combinations, an infinite number of dynamically generated towns, and a game world directly impacted by player choices. AMO gave the game a score of 8 out of 10.

From the review:

Itís when you ignore the warnings and an army of skeletons heads into town, only to get back and witness the complete obliteration of the townsfolk, that you realise Dinís Curse does things differently. A brief fight back only saw me consigned to the corpse pile and in an unexpected few minutes the town was lost. Invasions arenít the only example of where things can go wrong. Towns can succumb to revolts, quest givers storm off if you take too long and traitors have knives aimed between your shoulder blades. There are probably hundreds of different incidents that can happen, but all leave a permanent mark on your town if they do.

Fallout 3 had NPCs that stayed dead and a town that stayed blown to smithereens. Thatís the only example that springs to mind when trying to compare this dynamic system. Itís a big budget idea in a low budget game, and I can think up plenty of good games that would flirt with the notion of being great games if something like this was implemented.
