6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 4 comments

Adventure game developer Telltale Games has signed a deal with NBC Universal to develop games based on the media company's properties. The first game series to come from the agreement will be based on the Back to the Future license, with a Jurassic Park series coming later.

“Our partnership with Universal is an exciting next step in our continued growth as a mass-market games publisher and developer,” said Dan Connors, CEO of Telltale Games. “We are all huge fans of both of these franchises. For Back to the Future and Jurassic Park, we will leverage Telltale’s expertise in story-telling and game design to deliver on the unique elements of each series, with our goal being to create compelling cinematic adventures paying homage to each franchise.”

Jurassic Park and Back to the Future are two of the most successful film trilogies ever, grossing over $3 billion dollars at the box office collectively.

“Telltale Games has succeeded in establishing a unique combination of digital and physical distribution models, and their reputation for quality production is well earned,” said Bill Kispert, Vice President and General Manger, Digital Platforms, Universal Partnerships & Licensing. “Telltale’s episodic story-telling is an ideal means by which to add compelling new content to these important franchises.”.
The first episode of the new Back to the Future game is scheduled for release this winter. Jurassic Park will follow soon after. Head over to the page below to read more.

BOH Updated
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Independent developer Simone Bevilacqua has released an update for BOH. The retro action game of exploration challenges players to travel through trap filled corridors, solve puzzles, and defeat enemies as they quest to find and defeat the Evil Masters. BOH features 25 missions and 5 difficulty levels.

Update 11:

  • adds the aiming device (a tool that shows the shooting trajectory);
  • allows to restart from the last phase played when difficulty is set to "easy";
  • adds 2 new missions;
  • refines light casting;
  • enriches and extends the menu music of the theme "underground";
  • retouches the menu music of the theme "default";
  • adds the Danish translation;
  • improves the translations;
  • fixes the "mood" of the ending;
  • updates and improves the manuals;
  • applies various other changes.

    BOH is a unique retro-flavoured top-down shooter that combines maze exploration and action with terrific results.
    You move in claustrophobic, traps-packed, mind-boggling battlefields searching for the Evil Masters, who throw countless enemies at you until you discover and face them in the final battle. Although your quests are made slightly less hard by the bonuses and power-ups scattered all around, carrying out the missions demands lots of concentration and quick reflexes.
    With BOH the fun never ends: new missions can be added anytime and you can even create your own! And, as if that was not enough, you can also customize entirely its audio-visual aspect!
    BOH has been created with lots of passion and care to offer, with its oldschool style, a fascinatingly different videogaming experience.

    Spiderweb: Avadon In 2011, Avernum Updates, Mobile Versions

    Spiderweb Software's recent newsletter detailed the company's future plans. Topics covered included information about the company's upcoming 2011 RPG Avadon: The Black Fortress, plans to update the first Avernum fantasy RPG trilogy, upcoming festivities surrounding the company's 15th anniversary, and a hint that a mobile version of Avernum might be in Spiderweb's future.

    Avadon: The Black Fortress is an epic fantasy role-playing adventure in an enormous and unique world. You can choose from four different character classes, each with dozens of unique spells and abilities. Explore cunning dungeons, hunt for hundreds of magical artifacts, and travel through an enormous world, full of secrets. Avadon features many different endings. Your choices will change the world, and there is plenty of replay value. Avadon: The Black Fortress will be released for Windows and Macintosh in early 2011.

    This year marks Spiderweb Software's fifteenth birthday in the Indie games business. We hope to have some sort of celebration in the late summer.

    We have also begun to poke around with shiny new updates of the first Avernum trilogy, which is really starting to show its age. And who knows? Perhaps the first Avernum game might somehow find its way onto one of those nifty handheld tablety cell-phoney things that the kids are so crazy about. Anything is possible.
